Eligible students must meet the following criteria:
- Must be a UK national or EU/EEA/Swiss national who is ordinarily resident in the UK other than for the principal purpose of education.
- Be undertaking the course specified above and not any other forms of formal education.
- Not applying for this course straight from an undergraduate degree.
- Not previously held employment as a cyber security professional (cyber security was not a significant part of any previous job function – i.e. less than 50% of a previous job role).
- Be applying with a clear and demonstrable intention to retrain to become a cyber security professional in the UK.
- Do not have unspent criminal convictions relating to cyber-security/fraud(Note that only if you are successful in your application for this bursary, will you have to provide an up-to-date, basic-check criminal conviction certificate to the University. These are available from Disclosure Scotland and cost £25, which will be refunded to you.)
- Be able to start the MSc programme during the autumn 2017 term.

In selecting the students for the bursary, DCMS have identified that the scholarship is aimed at
●Encouraging and supporting general IT practitioners looking to specialise in cyber security, and
●Encouraging women into the cyber security profession because there is evidence of underrepresentation of women in the profession.
Scholarships should as much as possible encourage a diverse range of demographics to participate on the course. The University is required to show evidence to DCMS that these factors have been taken into account in the distribution of the scholarships.

Successful applicants will be required to provide an up to date basic check (a criminal conviction certificate) in order to be awarded the bursary. These are currently available from Disclosure Scotland (
