Johann and Maria were born in Bretzwil, Canton Basel, Switzerland. They had at least 4 children. The fourth emigrated to America in 1839.

A-1-1-1-4 Johann Jakob Sutter (7/11/1795-4/9/1844) & Barbara Schneider (4/14/1796-11/24/1865)

Johann was born in Bretzwill and Barbara in Reigoldsvil. In 1839 they came to America on the Attica with 8 of their then 10 surviving children. The eldest Maria died on the boat trip. Johann died in Basel (Fairfield Co), Ohio. Two of their children became Lutheran ministers: “JJ” and Godfrey.

“JJ” was born in Bretzwil, Canton Basel, Switzerland and Eva in Erdmaushausen, Wurttremburg, Germany. “JJ” came to America with his family in 1869. He married Eva

in Fairfield County Ohio on 12/19/1853. He was a Lutheran minister from the early 1850’s

until his death at home in Bellevue, Ohio.

A-1-1-1-4-7 Godfrey Sutter (9/9/1829-8/12/1912) and Mary Magdalene Reiff (6/29/1846-1/14/1943)

Godfrey was born in Bretzwil, Canton Basel, Switzerland and came to America with his family in 1869. Mary was born in Wurtemberg, Germany and came to America with her

family in 1849. They married in Columbus, Ohio on 8/11/1863. Godfrey was a Lutheran

minister from 1862-1909, serving 11 churches. They both died in Oak Harbor Ohio. They

had 10 children.

Amelia was born near Wapakoneta, Ohio, Henry in Posen Prussia. Henry’s family

emmigrated to Ohio in 1870. Henry worked for the New York Central Railroad after

moving with his family to LaCarne, Ohio in 1903. In 1905 the family moved to Oak Harbor,

Ohio and Henry was Custodian of Oak Harbor High School until he retired in 1928. Henry

died in Oak Harbor. Amelia died in Riverside Hospital in Toledo, Ohio.
