TRADING AND HOW TO DO BUSINESS IN MOZAMBIQUE

Mozambique is undoubtedly a priority market for South African exporters. It includes three distinct and important zones of activity: the gas-based developments in the Pemba/Palma area of the far north, the coal mining-based developments in Tete and Nacala in the central area, and on-going developments in the Maputo and Inhambane areas of the south.

Africa House is constantly monitoring trade and project initiatives in all three areas and has led strong group business missions to Tete/Nacala as well as Pemba/Palma. Duncan Bonnett and Paul Runge undertook an assignment in Maputo earlier this year aimed at gleaning intelligence on upcoming projects and initiatives in the country’s infrastructure, mining and gas sectors. Numerous Greenfields and brownfields opportunities across a broad range of sectors were identified.

Recent macro-economic developments in Mozambique have also had a strong effect on business conditions and imperatives. Africa House has been monitoring the methodologies utilised by operators in overcoming difficulties.

The insights and leads gathered from these investigations will be imparted to ENCCI members as will practical suggestions on how to deal with the current complexities.
