Joseph Beard enjoyed making them and eating them!
The pupils now have their “Great War Bake Off Challenge” to keep them busy over the holidays, baking cakes inspired by World War 1.Puffins: Ready, steady...bake!

SPORTSABILITY FESTIVAL

The event took place in the Shrewsbury Sports Village, attended by 10 primary schools from the Oswestry and Shrewsbury area – with over 100 children taking part in mini competitions and being introduced to some new activities. We took two teams of children- a 3/4 boys team and some of our Year 5 girls from our Change For Life club members made up a second team.

Children all took part in archery, mini-golf and boccia.

This was a great opportunity for even more children to represent their school in a sports event and was enjoyed by all. All children received certificates and two of our children received an extra certificate for excellent skills in archery.

We are now going to look into purchasing a boccia and New Age Kurling set, to provide an even wider range of activities for children to try in school.

YEAR 3/4 FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT - WEDNESDAY 18th OCTOBER

Eight of our Year 3/4 pupils took part in a football competition at The Marches School. In the first round we played three matches against teams in our group and then played three more games in a new group for the second part of the morning. Our team started nervously, but really began to work together as a team during the morning and learnt lots of new tactics and skills along the way. We didn’t win any of our games this time, but the children all really enjoyed the experience and played very enthusiastically. Well done our team!

REVISION BOOKS – YEAR 6

During parent consultations, some parents asked if they could still order some CPGSATs revision books. The 10 minute tasks for reading, maths and grammar are the most popular order and are less than half the price when ordered through school. If you would like to order some, please myself or Mrs Richards know before the end of next week. Mrs Prust

OUR VALUES CURRICULUM

We hope that you will support this month’s ‘value’:

November: EMPATHY

We will be thinking about:

Empathy is Seeing with the eyes of another, listening with the earsof another and feeling with the heart of another.

We will be talking about: Caring, Kindness, Good Manners, Respect, Sympathy, Understanding, Compassion

We will be learning : E - Everybody needs somebody

M - Model and Mirror

P - Put yourself in their shoes

A - Ask if you can help

T– Treat others the way you want to be treated

H – Hurtful or helpful

Y –You feel better and they feel better

Thought for the month:

‘Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, or a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around’

(Leo Buscaglia)

SAFETY FIRST

This week was Safety Week and it was launched at an assembly on Monday, where pupils shared ideas about stranger danger, road safety, particularly on dark nights, firework safety and well as internet safety.

In Nightingale's class we talked about Bonfire Night safety and designed posters. The children thought about why it is important to wear bright/reflective clothing in the dark and how to cross the road safely with an adult. Pupils explored the various safety issues raised in the assemblyin each class throughout the week.
