A tardy will be given if/when the student arrives after the roll has been taken or activity/lecture has begun and 1 participation point removed at that time. Tobacco Free Campus Policy

Cape Fear Community College:

-is committed to providing its employees and students with a safe and healthful environment.

-recognizes the use of tobacco products on campus grounds is detrimental to the health and safety of students, staff, faculty and visitors.

-recognizes that it has the legal authority to prohibit tobacco use pursuant to G.S. 143-599.

Therefore, Cape Fear Community College has set the following 100% tobacco free campus policy, to be implemented on August 1, 2009.

Use of tobacco is prohibited by students, staff, faculty or visitors:

  • in all campus buildings, facilities or property owned or leased by Cape Fear Community College and outside areas of the campus;
  • on campus grounds, facilities, or in vehicles that are the property of the college;
  • at lectures, conferences, meetings, athletic, social and cultural events held on college property;
  • for the purposes of this policy, tobaccois defined as any type of tobacco product including, but not limited to, cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, pipes, bidis, hookahs, smokeless or spit tobacco or snuff, e-cigarettes or any product simulating smoking instruments;
  • except at a specific location(s) on the North Campus as approved by the College President due to unsafe conditions going off-campus.

Tobacco use is prohibited on all CFCC property. The first offense is a warning and the second offense may result in disciplinary action.

ADA Attendance Policy: Absences should be considered on a case by case basis. If a student is making satisfactory progress in a course and provides documentation which supports that an absence is related to a documented disability, the absence should not be counted against the student. It is the student’s responsibility to contact the instructor and/or Disability Services within 24 hours of the absence to inform them that the absence is disability related. (If the student is incapacitated, an exception will be made.) Upon returning to class, the student must communicate with the instructor and provide documentation to the DSS office. The DSS office will provide verification to faculty that the absence is disability related. Some conditions, such as seizure disorders, may result in absences that are related to the condition but do not require medical attention each time. These absences should be treated as disability related absences. At the time a student registers for services, a determination will be made if such a condition exists and faculty will be notified.

The format of the class must be taken into consideration when determining if absences beyond the attendance policy are acceptable. When attendance is considered an essential function of the class, absences will not be waived. For example, a lecture class might afford itself to gaining material in another manner; however, a lab, shop, or clinical setting may not.

DISABILITY SERVICES: If you are a person with a disability and anticipate needing accommodations of any type in order to participate in this class, you must notify Disability Services (Union Station, Room U-218, 362-7012), provide the necessary documentation of the disability and arrange for the appropriate authorized accommodations. Once these accommodations are approved, please identify yourself to me in order that we can implement these accommodations.
