A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE AND COMMEND THE WADE HAMPTON HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY TEAM OF GREENVILLE COUNTY ON WINNING THE 1999 AND 2000 CLASS AAA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Whereas, it has come to the attention of the members of the General Assembly that the Wade Hampton High School Cross Country Team of Greenville County has won the 1999 and 2000 Class AAA State Championships; and

Whereas, the following members of the team competed at the State Cross Country Meet: Vince Bechtel, a senior and threetime AllState; Nick Reinhardt, a senior and twotime AllState, also received the Tommy Mangum Award from the Sports Report Magazine that recognizes the State of South Carolina athlete that has shown the most valor and courage in overcoming adversity; Alex Kornfeld, a junior and sixteenthplace finisher at the State Championship; Robbie Phillips, a junior; Matt Holmes, a sophomore and firsttime participant running cross country and finishing nineteenth at the State Championship; Jeff Crane, a freshman and twotime All State; and Joel Hamner, a freshman and AllCounty; and

Whereas, the Wade Hampton High School Cross Country Team has won numerous awards during the past few years including county and region champions in 1998, 1999, and 2000, and state runnerup in 1997 and 1998; and

Whereas, two of these fine young athletes, Nick Reinhardt and Robbie Phillips, were two of the four who were hit by a drunk driver in April of 2000 while training for a cross country meet; and

Whereas, the coach of this outstanding team, Richard Zeller, has been named County Coach of the Year for 1999 and 2000, and named High School Coach of the Year for 2000 by Sports Report Magazine; and

Whereas, these outstanding athletes, who have overcome significant adversity, epitomize the spirit that characterizes true champions. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, congratulate and commend the Wade Hampton High School Cross Country Team of Greenville County on winning the 1999 and 2000 Class AAA State Championships.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to Coach Richard Zeller.
