Chairman of Executive Committee

Job Description

There is no restriction on the number of years anyone may serve as a member of the Executive Committee.

Under the Rules of the Constituent Body (CB)at their first meeting of the season, with the President in the Chair, the Executive Committee shall elect a Chairman for the ensuing year.

The appointment of the Chairman is for one year.

The Chairman may hold other office in the CB.

When appointed the Chairman joins the Secretary and the Treasurer as one of the three main Officers of the Union.

The primary duty of the Chairman is to Chair the meetings of the Executive Committee of the CB.

The Chairman is an ex-officio member of every other committee of the East Midlands Rugby Union (EMRU) though it is impracticable and not necessary to attend every meeting. The Chairman should seek to receive information and reports on any action which may be taken under the name of the East Midlands Rugby Union.

The Chairman is a member of the Governance Committee, the Mobbs Memorial Match Committee, the Funding and Facilities Committee and the Planning, Funding and Reporting (PFR) Committee.

In conjunction with other members of the Governance Committee the Chairman is expected to attend, when convenient, the meetings of our four sub-counties of Bedfordshire, East Northants, Hunts & Peterborough and Northampton and District Alliance.

The Chairman should seek to maintain attendance, if not in person, then a representative of the EMRU, at meetings or functions where the interests of the County Union may be discussed.

The Chairman will keep a private record of possible candidates for the position of President of the Union. Commencing in January of the final year of the President and after consultation with the current President, the Chairman will contact any recommended person to become President Elect.

The Chairman should be available to visit all member Clubs of the CB whether by invitation or by personal choice in order to maintain the profile of the Union. This is best achieved on match days, preferably when the fixture is between two East Midlands Clubs. Also,getting to know as many Officers and members of each Club’s volunteer workers is undoubtedly a strong part of the Chairman’s background.

The Chairman will be aware of and attend whenever possible, all matches involving representative teams playing under the name of the EMRU.

The Chairman along with all members of the Executive Committee will maintain good links with the National Governing Body, the Rugby Football Union.

The Chairman will be responsible for taking the lead in finding a replacement should any vacancy occur on the Executive Committee.
