Job Title: Apprentice Maintenance Tradesperson-(Plumbing)

School /Department: Estates Maintenance Services

Job Family Level and Salary Point: Apprenticeship Rate of £9,767 per annum. Following this period the rate will then increase in line with relevant National Minimum Wage Rate.

Contract Status: Fixed Term for 4 years

Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week, 5 days out of 7 to be arranged

Reporting To: Site Maintenance Team Leader/ Maintenance

The Purpose of the Role:

To train as a Plumbing Apprentice within the Estates Office of the University of Nottingham. Spending time to train working under supervision of skilled operatives to attain the required skills to get a broad understanding of Plumbing trades occupations and associate trades as appropriate. Attending suitable day-release courses at a local training college.

Main responsibilities
i.e. What is done … to what/for whom ... with what outcome, or result / % of time
1. / Observing, learning and understanding a wide range of Plumbing processes and skills whilst under the instruction of skilled trained operatives and demonstrating the skills and processes learned on the job and at college throughout the training period / 75%
2. / Undertake and complete the specified college courses throughout the training period demonstrating advancement at the end of each academic year and completing a suitable level 3 qualification in 4 years, creating and maintaining a training log book throughout the duration of the apprenticeship period recording skills learned and projects undertaken / 18%
3. / Learn and understand the importance of Health and Safety in the workplace and wider University and demonstrate a sound understanding of the Estate’s and the University Health and Safety policies / 2%
4 / Undertake training and development required for the post to enhance working skills and knowledge in particular NVQ qualifications within specified area / 2%
4. / Maintenance and housekeeping of workshop areas and other work areas / 2%
5. / Any other duties appropriate to the grade and nature of the role / 1%

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications/
Education / 5 GCSEs at level C or above including English and Maths / GCSE in Design Technology
Experience / Practical school level technology work within a teaching workshop environment / General Computer skills
Statutory/Legal / Awareness of Health and safety
Knowledge/
Skills/Training / Good level of practical ability / Basic understanding of Plumbing systems
Other / A positive attitude with a willingness to learn new skills and undergo training.
Ability to use equipment and access work areas
