PSY 5950C HA 6
For this assignment, use the data from Rieth_Subset01_110202.sav. The data are described in the attached paper that was presented as SIOP in 2003. I’ve tried to give a succinct description of the data below.
The project involved investigation of the factors which govern the effectiveness of organizations. Terri Rieth gathered data on Physical Therapy clinics. She gave questionnaires to the employees of the clinics. These Level 1 measures included two perceived effectiveness measures and measures of perceived clarity (clar), permeability (perm), and firmness (firm) of organizational boundaries. I’ve computed an overall percetived effectiveness measure, eff. These are individual respondent values – they differ from person to person.
She also computed some Level 2 variables on the clinics themselves – clinsize, clinage, vismoemp, etc. These are described in more detail in the extended variable labels in the file. We will be using this data set for this assignment and for a couple of future assignments.
Center all the independent variables, for this assignment. Give each centered variable the same name as it already has but with a c added as a prefix, e.g., cclar for centered clar.
Perform the requested analyses with the centered variables.
1. Investigate the relationship of eff to cclar, cperm, and cfirm allowing the intercept to vary randomly from organization to organization. Level 1 slopes are fixed.
2. Investigate the above with a Level 2 model relating the intercept of the Level 1 model to clinage, clinsize, and vismoemp. CENTER the LEVEL 2 VARIABLES: cclinage, cclinsize, and cvismoemp. Again, Level 1 slopes are fixed.
This change examines whether perceived organizational effectiveness is related to the age, size and business of the PT clinic.
FYI, using the “B” notation for Level 1 variables, the Level 1 model is
effij = B0j + B1j*cclar + B2j*cperm + B3j*cfirm + eij
3. Repeat 2 using simple OLS.
4. For all 3 parts of the problem, describe the model(s) using the method I have been using in lectures. Use the “p” notation for the Level 1 model, B notation for Level 2.
a. Level 1 Model
b. Level 2 Model of the Level 1 intercept.
c. Level 2 Model(s) of the Level 1 slope(s).
d. Combined model.
For each part, write a 1-paragraph summary of the key results – both fixed and random effects.
So, for each part 1, 2, and 3, submit a) Explication of models, b) Estimates of Fixed effects and random effects and c) 1-paragraph summary.
