Grade scale: Please refer to the UMHB catalog.

You will be evaluated in 4 hourly exams (each worth 10% of your final grade) and a cumulative final exam (worth 20% of your final grade). During the last week of classes, you will have an oral exam with the professor, which will test your speaking proficiency and pronunciation—worth 15% of your final grade. You are expected to do the assigned homework each day, and it will periodically be collected for grades; there will also be announced and unannounced quizzes to supplement the homework grade, which will account for 15% of your final grade. Homework must be complete and on-time to get credit—the student will do all of the assignment, then check and correct their work with a different color ink using the answer key, by doing this the student will receive full credit on the homework assignment. If homework is not done in this way, the student will receive a zero. Late homework will not be accepted—if you are absent, only if the homework makes it into my inbox (Heard Hall 118) by the end of class time will the homework be evaluated for credit.

Lastly, you are expected to attend and participate regularly. You may be absent 1 time without penalty (except quiz or homework grade penalty). Each additional absence will result in a one point deduction from your final course grade. Students with perfect attendance will be rewarded with an additional 2% on their final grade. In situations of illness or emergency, the student MUST notify the instructor PRIOR to the absence to have it excused. No test will be given after the date and time it is scheduled, and no assignment will be accepted after its due date. Make-ups are only given if you can substantiate a university-excused absence. Non-participation in class will also adversely affect your final grade. Remember that this is a language class—be brave and use as much French as possible! We all will make mistakes, but the more French you use, the better your skills will become.
