C. COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course introduces the fundamentals of Business Finance. The focus is on the tools and techniques used to understand and solve the basic financial problems confronting business today. Topics include: The Role and Environment of Managerial Finance, Time Value of Money, Risk and Return Relationship, Capital Budgeting Techniques, Capital Structure Theory, Working Capital Management and Dividend Policy.

D. COURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES

At the end of the course, students should be able to:
1  / Discuss the current financial environment in which business decisions are made.
2  / Discuss the financial planning process in a business organization.
3  / Explain and apply the principles of time value of money, at an introductory level, to general valuation and cash flow applications.
4  / Explain the conceptual relationship between the expected return and the relevant risk of individual assets and portfolios of assets.
5  / Apply the traditional evaluation techniques of capital budgeting analysis in business capital investments.
6  / Define the concept of cost of capital and financial leverage and explain those
Concepts in the determination of the optimal capital structure.
7  / Explain the working capital management practices of a firm.

I. ATTENDANCE POLICY

As per the University Absentee Regulations Uon-RR-AP-1-2009, Absentee warning notice will be issued to the student according to:
1.  “Absentee Warning 1” has to be issued to a student who has missed 5% of course contact hours.
2.  “Absentee Warning 2” has to be issued to a student who has missed 10% of course contact hours.
3.  “Drop one Grade” has to be issued to a student who has missed 15% of course contact hours.
4.  “Barred from Examination” has to be issued to a student who has missed 25% of course contact hours.
