Job Purpose: / ·  To ensure that older people in Scotland who have or are at risk of early stage dementia have a greater awareness of the help, entitlements and choices which are available to themselves and their carers.
·  Work with the Helpline Co-ordinator to ensure that the Silver Line Scotland team develop a good understanding and awareness of early stage dementia.
·  To work with the Silver Line Scotland team to deliver generalist advice.
·  To develop and adapt information resources to meet the needs of people who have or are at risk of dementia and resources for carers of people at risk of dementia.
Main Responsibilities / ·  Consult with older people and their carers about their information and advice needs and involve them in review of Age Scotland publications.
·  Work as a generalist adviser in the Silver Line Scotland team. This includes answering calls in the helpline, making friendship calls, answering email and postal enquiries. This will be for 14 hours (2 days) a week. Work with the I&A team to review Age Scotland and Age UK publications and the Age Scotland website to ensure that they meet the needs of people with early stage dementia and their carers.
·  Work with the team to develop partnerships so that effective referrals can be made for specialist advice and support.
·  Maintain a clear record of all information sources used.
·  Work with the team to recruit people who have early stage dementia and their carers as volunteer information readers.
·  Promote awareness of the equalities and human right issues for people who have early stage dementia.
·  To oversee and co-ordinate the health information resources on the Age Scotland website.
·  To liaise with appropriate charities and statutory agencies.
·  To maintain accurate records of work and contribute to project reports.
·  Deliver presentations and talks at events, and lead workshops where required.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Experience / ·  Experience of working with people who have early stage dementia.
·  Recent experience (paid or unpaid) of advice work.
·  Experience of working with older people.
·  Experience of writing information resources for the public including web based resources.
·  Experience of developing good relationships with other agencies.
Knowledge / ·  Health issues for older people including dementia.
·  Understanding problems experienced by people with low incomes and the links between health, money, pensions, benefits, Social Care, Housing, Legal and end of life.
·  An understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities – you need to relate positively to people of different cultures, backgrounds and experiences and believe in the equal value of people regardless of race, religion, culture, gender, age, disability or sexuality.
Skills / ·  Ability to deliver advice and friendship to the principles and standards of Silver Line Scotland.
·  Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
·  Ability to work effectively with volunteers.
·  Ability to accept and manage constructive feedback.
·  Strong communication skills, including the ability to present and give talks at events.
