Aundrea: Today we have with us Mike Conlon from Bridges and he’s going to go over some things that pertain to research administration support in regards to PS and Bridges. We will review a few items that will affect your proposal submissions and a couple things we need to follow up on from previous meetings.
Mike Conlon: By way of introduction my name is Mike Conlon. I’m a faculty member of the COM and was a grant funded researcher for 22 years and I want to thank you all for paying my salary. Over the time we have had PS we have all come to know that Research Administration is obviously a big part of the university’s business and a difficult thing in PS. UF did some things that made it worse. We had a very primitive research administration system. It didn’t know much about the finances, projects or details of contracts, awards and proposals. We took this information and loaded it into PS. This was a bad thing. We have about 25,000 projects in PS. Most of that information is inaccurate in some way. We have been cleaning it up ever since we went live in 2004. Most of the projects are inactive. Out of 25,000 only about 7,000 are active. Active is somewhat a blurry term. We think it’s closed, but we want to make adjustments to it. We thing it’s closed but there are charges posted against the grant that we’d like to remove. We think it’s closed, but there might be money we want to spend out. We’d like it to be better. Starting out September 2006 there was a change of management at main C&G and a new effort to correct problems in PS, both technical and data related. Since Sept 2006 Awards in PS, Project set up has improved. I can say the processes are different. Approximately 2,100 have been set up in what we think is reasonably correct i.e. the staff was trained, the knew how to do it, the work was checked, and the setup of projects is quite different than it was before. So for awards made after September 2006 are m 5:50
