Background:Family and friends of Kyle Zammar established this scholarship fund in his memory. On May 29, 2006, Kyle died suddenly due to heart failure from myocarditis. Kyle was a warm, compassionate, loving and giving young man. A 2002 graduate of Lee’s Summit High School, Kyle was widely admired by his peers and looked to as a leader and role model. In addition, he was an accomplished broadcasting student and athlete with a passion for his favorite sport, basketball. Kyle had a great desire to help others, which he fulfilled by spending three summers teaching special education students and coaching boys basketball. Kyle was on the verge of starting a career as a special education teacher and coach, where he undoubtedly would have had a positive impact on many young lives. Kyle’s passion will live on through future teachers and coaches.

Purpose:This fund was established to provide financial support to a Lee’s Summit High School graduating senior pursuing continued education at an accredited college or university with the goal of becoming a teacher.

Scholarship amount:To be determined.

Guidelines: a. The applicant must be a Lee’s Summit High School graduate of the senior class.

  1. The applicant plans to continue his/her education at an accredited college or university.
  2. The applicant plans to pursue a career as a teacher.
  3. The applicant must be or must have been involved in athletics at Lee’s Summit High School.
  4. The applicant must have high academic achievement during high school.
  5. The recipient shall in no way be limited by gender, race, religion, or any other designation that could exclude an individual.
  6. The applicant must be or must have been involved in civic, community and/or extracurricular activities.
  7. The applicant must be a well-rounded individual who displays exemplary character.

Process:The Selection Committee (two from Kyle’s family, 2 LSEF board members and 1 LS Coach) will review the applications and may request additional background information and/or personal interviews.

Scholarship Payment:The Scholarship will be made by a Lee’s Summit Educational Foundation check payable jointly to the recipient and his or her choice of a higher learning institution.To receive the scholarship check, recipient must send class schedule to the Foundation Office, 301 NE Tudor Road, LSMO 64086 or to .
