R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Texas A&M University football team has achieved outstanding success in the 1992 gridiron campaign, appearing as the host team in the 1993 Mobil Cotton Bowl, and finishing its season with an exceptional record of 12 wins against only one defeat; and
WHEREAS, The 1992 Aggie squad became only the fifth college football team ever to win 12 regular season games, exceeding by one the number of victories posted by the school's legendary 1939 national championship team; and
WHEREAS, Establishing a tradition of football excellence, Texas A&M has been victorious in 21 consecutive regular season games, including 15 straight conference wins, and their consistent achievements have been deservingly reflected each week in the national rankings; and
WHEREAS, A juggernaut on defense, the Aggies led the conference in every defensive category during the 1992 season, duplicating the success of the previous year's A&M squad, and becoming the first team in Southwest Conference football history to achieve such defensive dominance in successive years; and
WHEREAS, Much of this year's outstanding football success is attributable to the exceptional leadership of head coach R.C.Slocum, who, since taking the helm in 1989, has become the first coach in Texas A&M history to guide his team to four consecutive bowl appearances, and whose overall record as head coach is 39101; and

WHEREAS, Although each team member made a significant contribution to the Aggies' success, several players also attained individual honors:linebacker Marcus Buckley was Southwest Conference Defensive Player of the Year and a consensus AllAmerica selection; Patrick Bates was a finalist for the Jim Thorpe Award and made several AllAmerica squads; Aaron Glenn was Southwest Conference Defensive Newcomer of the Year; and Greg Hill was a consensus AllSouthwest Conference running back; and
WHEREAS, This exemplary group of young men has, along with their coaches and staff, ably represented the pride and tradition of Texas A&M University, and their exceptional accomplishments have rightfully earned them special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 73rd Texas Legislature hereby congratulate head coach R.C.Slocum and the Texas A&M University Aggies on their outstanding 1992 gridiron campaign and extend to them best wishes for continued success in the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared for head coach R.C.Slocum, the members of the team, and the coaching staff as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
