Biomass Alternative Energy in Hispaniola
Sustainable Development by the Private Sector.
The objective of this paper is to create a strategy for sustainable development for the Dominican Republic and Haiti through bioenergy crops and alternative energy technology, initiated through a socially responsible private sector. Globalization must take into account the poor; the rebirth and development of Hispaniola (Dominican Republic and Haiti) can only result by involving socially responsible companies. This paper will demonstrate that through an exchange of international sectors - technical, security and business - the Dominican Republic can begin to solve its energy problems, and ultimately, generate biosustainable communities for long-term development of both the Dominican Republic & Haiti. Through science, a new economic model that equitably employs biofuels and the biorefinery concept can be developed, building thousands of new industries and business, tens of thousands of new jobs in the private sector in a way that a fair share of the value-added benefits accrue to the poor while reducing poverty. The Dominican Republic must reduce its dependency on oil and other petroleum products, transitioning to renewable energy technologies in order to produce sustainable development. Finally, through the use of the natural resources of the Dominican Republic, modern science and international collaboration (private and public sectors), bioeconomic development model can be created in the Caribbean area for attaining sustainability, environmental enhancement, and human development.
