Grad Breakfast Spring 2012

The Potential Grad list is presently posted outside of student services. This list contains the names of those we have determined are eligible to graduate this year.

Check the spelling of your name. It MUST match your birth certificate and your passport as it will be used on your official transcripts

There are 3 forms you will need to fill out on the back table and return to Ms Cummings (main office)

  1. Sackville High Grad Profile (name to be read at grad and statement of plans)
  1. Hire a Grad annual fundraiser form is due no later than May 16. The event takes place Friday May 18th with a rain date of May 22. Participation is a pre-requisite if you are hoping to receive one of the SHS Awards at graduation. A half day is 9-12am and cost $25 a full day is 9-3pm and cost $50. Any donations over $25 an income tax receipt can be provided upon request.
  1. SHS Awards application (due May 3rd) To qualify for awards applicants must submit the application and must participate in the hire a grad fundraiser. Details of your financial information your participation in both school and community life as well as the post secondary institutions you plan to attend etc is required

Credit Checks : If you have dropped or changed classes make sure your Guidance Counsellor is aware and reviews your credit check to graduate. If you think you are not going to pass required courses this semester please make an appointment to see your counsellor as soon as possible.

Post Secondary: By now most of you will have applied to a post secondary school if you intend to go in Sept. You can however apply any time, even late August, if you decide last minute. Universities generally have room; colleges may have filled their programs by then. You can determine if a course is filled or there’s a waiting list at community college by checking NSCC.ca, on the right, program openings. Apply if it is O open or W waitlisted.Some students gain acceptance to a program and then change their minds because a different opportunity presents itself. Contact the institution and ask to defer your admission for a year. Most schools will do this and you don’t have to reapply.

Returning Grad option. If you wish to return next year, you may under certain conditions. Please consult your counsellor as soon as possible if you are considering the returning grad option.

Transcripts: On Grad Day after you’ve returned your books and gowns, you will receive three copies of your transcript along with your diplomas. One is open for you to see. The other two are sealed in envelopes. DO NOT OPEN THEM. If you are going to a post secondary school you will need to forward one along to confirm your acceptance. If you are not going to a school immediately, you may in the future. Tuck them away somewhere safe along with your diploma. Having to request a transcript after you graduate takes time and money so keep these on hand..

Financing your education can be a very challenging undertaking. Check the VGO for scholarship opportunities as well as information regarding student loans as it becomes available. the Canada Employment Centre for students opens in the end of April in the RBC bldg at Sunnyside. Go and check it out for summer employment opportunities.
