Senior Bulletin
September, 2014
Class of 2014:
We’re hoping the school year has gotten off to a good start. We hope, too, that you’re working hard in all of your classes. All of your teachers hope the year is a fun one for you in the midst of all the big decisions you have to make.
Each Senior has been assigned a counselor based upon the alphabet. If you are working with an IEP, Mr. Lynch will help you plan for next year. All of us are happy to meet with you to help you fill out college and scholarship applications and to help you investigate college and career choices for life after high school. If you ever have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask any of us. Do keep in mind that you need to give us enough time to fill out paperwork for you. Don’t bring us applications the day before they are due!
We will work to publish this Senior Bulletin once a month. The idea behind this bulletin is to keep you informed of important dates and to make you aware of scholarship and career opportunities. Keep in mind, though, the responsibility lies with you to meet all deadlines and guidelines. If there is something we can add to the bulletin that would help you, let us know.
Best of luck and we look forward to meeting with you. We are really excited about working with you this year!

Registration packets may be picked up in the guidance office, the College/Career Resource Center, or from you guidance counselor. You may also register online at or The cost for the ACT is $36.50 and the cost for the SAT is $51.00. If you should need to register after the deadline, you can, but there are late fees for both tests. If you have not taken the ACT yet and you are considering going to college, you need to sign up for the test ASAP.
On the ACT there is an option to take an essay test. This is an additional 30-minute writing section and costs $52.50. Most schools in Kentucky do not require this portion of the ACT for admission, but some schools, such as the University of Cincinnati, do require this section. Some people recommend taking the Writing Section once so that you have it completed in case a school requests this score. We recommend contacting the schools that you are interested in applying to and asking if they require the ACT Writing Section. Doing so could save you time and money.
Also, when filling out your ACT or SAT registration, the school code for Campbell County High School is 180-010. See your guidance counselor if you need help in filling out your packet.
ACT / SAT Reporting
We wanted to make you aware that some schools and organizations are requiring that ACT and SAT scores be sent to them directly from ACT and SAT. This means that you must indicate on your registration form that the scores be sent to these schools or you have to contact the testing organization at a later date and pay the fee to have the scores sent to the school. At this point, we have been in informed that NCAA Clearinghouse, University of Cincinnati, and the University of Kentucky will no longer accept ACT and SAT scores that are listed on your transcript. Please keep this in mind as you are applying to these schools and the NCAA.
ACT Prep
As you take the ACT, you may want to do some extra preparation to get ready for the test. If you are looking for some ACT prep sessions, both NKU and UC are offering programs on their campuses. We are excited to announce that we are now an ACT Boot Camp site. See your guidance counselor or our guidance webpageif you have more questions.
Bus Tour
The Guidance Office will again be offering a college bus tour. This year we will be visiting the campuses of Georgetown College and Eastern Kentucky University. The tour is October 24th and will depart at 7:20 AM. We will return late afternoon/ early evening.
The cost for the tour is $10. This includes travel and food costs. Space is limited, so sign up soon. Students must have a minimum score of a 20 on the ACT and a 3.0 unweighted GPA.
ASVAB
Senior students are eligible to take ASVAB test here at school on Oct. 15th. The ASVAB is a great tool in helping people determine what careers might be a good fit for them based on their personal skills. Sign-ups are in the Guidance Office. See your Guidance Counselor if you have more questions.

Close the Deal
The Guidance Department will again be hosting the Close the Deal event on Tuesday, October 29th. All senior students will participate in this event. Each student will have discussions with college admission and financial aid representatives as well as business people representing various careers which you might pursue after leaving CCHS. Be sure to take advantage of this opportunity and speak with these representatives to learn about what these schools and careers have to offer.
On CampusCollege Visits
Seniors are allowed to visit college campuses they are interested in and we encourage you to do this. Visiting is a great way to get a feel for different schools and to get a first hand impression of what goes on at the school. Keep in mind that it is your responsibility to make up any work that is missed during the college visit. To have this visit count as an excused absence, the following procedure should be followed:
1)Be sure to prearrange you visit with the attendance office. You should do this at least one week ahead of time.
2)Keep in mind that all make-up work is your responsibility to gather and complete by the deadline set by the teacher.
3)Upon your return you must provide the attendance office with appropriate documentation from the school you visited.
Please keep in mind that you are only allowed two college visits a year. These visits count as excused absences.
College Preview Days
Colleges frequently hold Preview Days on their campuses as an opportunity for interested applicants and their families to learn about their schools. These days are nice because the schools will have a number of different departments on hand for you to talk with about different questions and concerns. As we are made aware of these Preview Days dates, we will list them here in the Senior Bulletin.

Recommendation Letters
Please keep in mind that as you apply to colleges and for scholarships, letters of recommendation are often required as part of the application process. Consider carefully whom you would like to write these letters of recommendations. Choose a teacher or counselor who knows you well and who can speak to your strengths and accomplishments. Be sure to be polite in your request and to give that person plenty of time to complete the letter. Finally, give him or her a list of your classes, extra-curricular activities, and service projects you are involved with so that they can write a strong letter on your behalf.
