OFF-POST STUDENT INFORMATION SHEET
AIR ASSAULT INFORMATION
The Fort Hood Air Assault School (FHAAS) is dedicated to training Soldiers in Air Assault operations, sling-load operations, and rappelling. FHAAS is open to all III Corps and Fort Hood Soldiers. III Corps units not located on Fort Hood will adhere to the following process to enroll their Soldiers in the FHAAS.
OFF-POST STUDENT ENROLLMENT PROCESS
1. Off-post Soldiers follow the guidelines below.
a. Soldiers must receive Temporary Duty Assignment (TDY) orders on an official Department of Defense (DD) Form 1610 to attend a course at FHAAS. Nonpaid TDY on a DD form 1610 is authorized with proper permission from the respective chain of command.
(1) PWA Enrollment Form, Enclosure 2 to OPORD PW 15-09-0858 (PHANTOM WARRIOR ACADEMY FORT HOOD AIR ASSAULT SCHOOL).
(2) ORB or ERB, dated within last 30 days.
2. The point of contact for school admissions is the FHAAS ADMIN Clerk at 254-553-6741.
3. PREREQUISITES: All applicants must have passed the APFT within 30 days from the class start date and meet the Army height and weight standards IAW AR 600-9. All applicants must complete a 12 mile foot march within 90 days and complete an Obstacle Course (The Tough One, Inclining Wall, Low Belly Over, Confidence Climb, Six Vaults, Swing Stop and Jump, Low Crawl/Belly Crawl, High Step and Weaver) within 60 days. An equipment inspection must be completed by the home unit 30 days prior to the class start date and a four mile rune must be conducted in 30 days.
4. MEALS: FHAAS off-post students must have a DD 714 (Meal Card), issued by their parent unit, in their possession at in-processing. Soldiers authorized Subsistence-In-Kind (SIK) may use their regular meal card. For Soldiers receiving Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS), the parent unit will issue them meal cards annotated with “FLD”, which will allow them to utilize the DFAC without paying cash. TDY orders will state that meals are provided. Soldiers without meal cards will be required to pay for meals provided at government expense. FHAAS off-post students are authorized to dine at an Instillation Dining Facility. 13 x Meals-Ready-to-Eat (MREs) needed for the course will be provided by the student’s unit.
5. TRANSPORTATION: FHAAS does not provide any type of shuttle service. Students must have a reliable mode of transportation to and from class.
6. OFF-POST STUDENT DROPS: Off-Post students dropped from the FHAAS will return to their parent unit within 48 hours. Off-post students dropped from the course are not authorized to remain at Fort Hood until the completion of the course. The parent units are responsible for providing transportation for off-post students dropped from the course to their home station.
