OBJECTIVE: The SWD correct dribbling technique.
ACTIVITIES / CUE PHRAZES/INSTRUCTIONS
Intro:
Jog perimeter of field
Fitness:
Teacher led exercises: stretches, abdominals, and push-ups / In scatter formation or squads
Lesson Focus: Dribbling
  1. Teacher explains and demonstrates dribbling. Explain purpose of dribbling is to advance the while maintaining control. Remind students to use inside and outside of foot, look up occasionally to see what is around you.
  1. Drill #1- dribble down on the right, back on left side of cones. Slow on the 1st turn faster on 2nd turn, change speed when teacher blows whistle on 3rd turn, weave through cones on 4th turn
  1. Drill #2- Circle Dribble- Divide class into 4 teams and make two large circle, where each team occupies ½ a circle. Assign each member a number so that there is a corresponding number on the other team. Call one number, the two players in each circle run to get the ball in the center of the circle, run back to spot, than dribble around the circle. The object is to dribble quickly and maintain control and beat the other player back to their spot. Can call more than one number.
/ Dribbling skill cue:
  1. Tap ball lightly
  2. Use both feet
  3. Keep ball 1 to 2 feet in front
  4. Arms free for balance
  5. Focus on ball but be aware of situation around you
  6. Use inside and outside of foot

Closure:
Have a student demonstrate correct technique. Ask other students, What is this person doing right? Is there any thing he/she can do better?
DATE: ______EQUIPMENT: 1 ball per 2 students
UNIT: Soccer Day: 2 LOCATION: soccer field
STANDARDS: 1PA-E1PO! 1PA-E2PO1
OBJECTIVE: The SWD passing and trapping technique.
ACTIVITIES / CUE PHRAZES/INSTRUCTIONS
Intro: Line up on end line of field. Run to opposite end line: jog back. Run to center: jog back. Repeat.
Fitness: Teacher led exercises: Stretches, abdominal and push-ups. / Scatter or squads.
Lesson Focus: Passing and trapping.
1. Teacher explains and demonstrates each skill. The purpose of passing is to send the ball to teammate in order to advance the ball down the field or to shoot, emphasize using both inside, outside and instep of foot. The purpose of trapping is to stop or control a rolling or bouncing ball. Throughout the passing activities, remind students to use inside, outside and instep.
2. Drill #1- Stationary partner pass and trap. Each set of partners lines up about 10 yards apart and passes the ball and tries various ways to trap a ground ball. Also practice using various parts of foot to pass the ball. To practice trapping air balls have one partner toss or bounce the ball for the other partner to trap. After the trap the partner picks up the ball and tosses or bounces it back.
3. Drill #2- ZIGZAGPass and trap- In partners, each pair of players stand side by side 10 feet apart. Partner 1 has the ball. As both partners run forward, partner 2 runs ahead to receive the ball as partner 1 passes it. Then partner 1 run ahead to receive a pass from partner 2. This pattern continues as they move down the field. Encourage student to control the ball by trapping it before passing it back. / PASSING SKILL CUES
  1. Focus on ball
  2. Contact ball at the center for a push pass on the ground
  3. Point the toe of the kicking foot up and out with ankle locked for a pass using the inside of the foot; point the toe down and in for a pass using the outside of the foot; and point toes down for a pass using the instep.
  4. Follow through in the direction of the pass.
TRAPPING SKILL CUES
  1. Focus on ball
  2. Cushion or give with the ball to get control.
  3. Wedge ground balls by lowering the foot on top of the ball
  4. Trap air ball by allowing them to hit the chest or thigh and letting the body absorb the force of the impact so the ball does not have much rebound. The ball should drop straight down to the ground after impact. (Girls are permitted to cross their arms over their chest when doing a chest block)
  5. Use the inside of the lower leg, the inside of both legs, the front of both legs, and the sole of the foot to trap balls on the ground.

Closure:
Review and discuss skill cues. Question students. Ask a student to demonstrate the skills.
DATE: ______EQUIPMENT: 1 ball per student, 1 cone per 2 students
UNIT: soccer Day: 3 LOCATION: soccer field
STANDARDS: 1PA-E1PO2 1PA-E2PO1
OBJECTIVE: The SWD the previously learned skills of dribbling, passing and trapping in lead-up activities.
ACTIVITIES / CUE PHRAZES/INSTRUCTIONS
Intro:
Jog the perimeter of field, when whistle blows, sprint; when whistle blows again, jog.
Fitness:
Teacher lead exercise, abs., stretches, push-ups / Squads, circle or scatter formation
Lesson Focus: Review and practice skills
Drill 1- Dribble Escape-
Each player has a ball and on whistle begins to dribble all over the field. Select two players without balls as “chasers”. These players attempt to kick the ball away from the others. Any player whose ball is kicked by the chaser also becomes a chaser. (New chasers must place their ball out of play before they begin chasing.) The drill continues until all the players have become chasers.
Drill 2- Pinball Soccer- Each pair of players plays in a small area of the field using a ball and a cone. The object of the drill is to pass the ball at a cone 15 feet away using either a push pass or low drive. If the first player hits the cone, the second player must make the same type of pass using the same part of foot. If the first player misses, the second can challenge the first player with a different pass. / Drill 3-Circle Soccer- Divide the class into two teams and assign the team ½ of the circle. One player starts the ball by kicking toward the other team, attempting to send the ball below the shoulders of the opponents. The opponents try to trap the ball with the appropriate trap. If the opponents trap the ball, they try to send it back below the shoulders of the other team. If the ball is not trapped and gets past the opponent, the kicking team scores a point. Not player can go into the circle to get the ball; the mall must come to the player. If the ball becomes dead inside the circle, retrieve it and out in back into play.
** May have time for only 2 games.
Closure:
Teacher Q& A: What skills did you use in dribble escape, pinball soccer and circle soccer.
DATE: ______EQUIPMENT: 1 ball per 2 students
UNIT: Soccer Day: 5 LOCATION: soccer field
STANDARDS: 1PA-E1 PO1 1PA –E2 PO1
OBJECTIVE: The SWD the skill of heading,
ACTIVITIES / CUE PHRAZES/INSTRUCTIONS
Intro:
Jog a figure 8 around each goal.
Fitness:
Teacher led exercises: stretches, abs., and strength. / Scatter, circle or squads
Lesson Focus:
  1. Explain and demonstrate the skill of heading. Purpose is to pass, score or clear the ball. Head in all directions: forward, sideward, and backward.
  2. Toss to self (one player practice then the other). Each student tosses a ball in the air, heads it once and catches it. After he player can head the ball a number of times successfully, they can attempt to head the ball two times consecutively before catching it.
  3. Partner Toss: In partners, the 1st player tosses the ball underhand so that it arches and drops toward the 2nd players head. The 2nd player heads the ball forward, attempting to send it back the 1st player. After 4 tosses, the players reverse roles. They can attempt to head the ball to each other rather than tossing.
/ Heading Skill Cues
  1. Focus on ball
  2. Contact ball at the forehead, using legs to propel the truck, neck, and head forward to meet the ball so the head hits the ball rather than the ball hitting the head.
  3. Lean back before contacting the ball.
  4. Follow through the forehead.
** Students who are not familiar with heading might want to start out using a softer and lighter ball.
Closure:
Teacher Q&A.
What are the three purposes of heading?
What are the cues to remember?

  3. Goalkeeping: explain that the goalkeeper collects shots (catches), deflects shots and plays offense by throwing and punting. Explain the differences in collecting technique for ground shots and air shots.
  1. Drills
  2. Punting: Partners line up facing each other about 15 yards apart. Partner one shoots the ball at partner 2(goalkeeper); the goalkeeper retrieves ball using correct technique and punts it back toward partner 1. After 8 – 10 punts, rotate positions.
  3. Triangle Goal: Set up a triangle goal with 3 cones. The goalkeeper stands in the middle of the triangle, the three shooters stand on the 3 sides of the triangle. Shooter should be approx. 10 feet from the cones (goal). The shooters take turns shooting the ball at the goalkeeper, who attempts to either deflect or collect the ball. After the save the goalkeeper throws the ball back to the player and prepare for another shot from the next player. After each player has shot the ball three times, change goalkeeper.
/ Shooting skill cues:
  1. Focus on the ball
  2. Contact the ball at the center with the instep.
  3. Place non-kicking foot beside the ball
  4. Kick with either foot.
  5. Follow through in the direction of the kick.
