Dates to Remember:

  • Dec. 20th – Early Release at 12 PM; Winter Celebrations at 11AM; End of 1st Semester
  • Dec. 23rd – Jan. 6th – Winter Break

/ Homework:
  • A “daily” math worksheet will be sent home as well.
  • Students will also have Words Their Way (spelling) homework along with an assessment on Friday.
  • All homework needs to be completed and turned in on Friday.
  • If completed each night, homework should take a maximum of 25 minutes, including the 10 minutes of reading.

What are we Learning About?
  1. Reading
  • Infer, predict, and visualize with nonfiction texts.
  • Retelling Stories – beginning, middle and end, correct order, important details, setting, and characters
  • Digraphs kn, wr, gn, mb
  • Long “i” (CVCe)
  1. Writing
  • Expository – “All About” books – unique features, choosing a topic, and expanding topics
  • Vocabulary – expository, immersion, all about books
  • Lowercase “e” and “l” in handwriting
  • Correct punctuation, capitalization, and good spelling
  1. Math
  • Distinguish between attributes that define a 2D or 3D figure and attributes that do not define the shape.
  • Story (Word) Problem focus, particularly subtraction
  • One-to-one correspondence – counting up to 50 by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, and 10’s starting at any given number between 1-50.
  • Fractions, Today’s Number, Coins, and time, Place Value
4. Science – Describe the change in the location of an object such as “closer to”, “nearer to”, and “farther from” and demonstrate and record the way objects can move such as in a straight line, zigzag, up and down, back and forth, round and round, and fast and slow
5. Social Studies– Compare Customs, Holidays, and Celebrations – Christmas Around the World / What can I do at home?
  • Reinforce what we are learning in the classroom by reading to your child and having them read daily.
  • Always practice retelling a story in the correct order and including all important details.
  • Students should be writing sentences and using punctuation and capitalization for the most part.
  • Students should be sounding out simple unknown words while reading.
  • Complete nightly homework to extend lessons from class.
  • Use technology to make at-home learning more fun! Brain Pop, Jr., Starfall, ABC Mouse, and lots of other programs are great to keep kids engaged and learning!

  • Remember to have your children to school on time as often as possible. We begin instruction immediately after announcements (around 8:05 AM). Thank you for all your support!
