MEMORANDUM FOR Officer Candidate School Enlistment Option Soldiers

SUBJECT: Officer Candidate School Preparatory Training (OPT) Welcome Letter

1. Congratulations on your selection to attend Maryland Army National Guard Officer Candidate School Preparatory Training at Camp Fretterd Military Reservation.

2. REPORTING INSTRUCTIONS

REPORT TO Regan Hall, Building #106

REPORT TIME: 0800 hrs

REPORT DATE: 10 July 2004

REPORT UNIFORM: BDU with soft cap IAW AR 670-1.

3. COURSE IDT DATES:

16-17 Oct 04 5-6 Feb 05

4. COURSE REQUISITES:

a. Weigh-in will be conducted to assess your height and weight standards IAW AR 600-9.

b. You will take a Diagnostic APFT on Sunday morning, 0800.

c. ETS must be beyond 30 SEP 2005 (Accelerated OCS) or 30 SEP 2006 (Traditional OCS)

d. Individuals with permanent and/or temporary profiles will contact 1LT Collins (410-702-9661) immediately regarding eligibility to attend.

c. Completion of Basic Combat Training.

5. ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS: An OCS application packet will be created by you and the OPT Staff at the 70th Regiment. Visit the 70th Regiment website http://www.angelfire. com/md2/70thregiment/ for information regarding the contents of the OCS application packet. Bring the following documentation:

a. OCS Application Form.

b. Copy of Social Security Card.

c. Copy of Birth Certificate

d. Proof of US citizenship if not US born

e. Official College Transcript (s) (Minimum 60 SH /90 QH credits)

6. PACKING LIST

a.  Military ID card and ID Tags.

b.  Two (2) sets of the BDU uniforms with soft cap. Field Jacket or Gortex Parka with field gloves and inserts (seasonal option.)

c.  Two sets of standard issue military boots with all leather upper.

d.  Seasonal Army Improved Physical Fitness Uniforms (IPFU), to include running shoes, IAW AR 670-1.

e.  Personal Hygiene Kit to include towel(s).

f.  Telephone number, address and Point of Contact for your unit.

g.  Pen, pencil and paper for note-taking.

7. BILLETTING

a.  Students are required to stay overnight. Billeting is free of charge. Male and Female students will be housed in separate rooms with a common latrine area. Linen, to include pillows, is provided.

b.  Telephones: Pay telephones are located outside the 29th Division Hall entrance. Military telephones may be used for official purposes only. Cellular telephones are not authorized.

c. Electronic Devices: Radios, computers, beepers, personal data assistants, etc. are not authorized.

8. PARKING

a.  Vehicles will be parked at the track, which is straight into post past Camp Fretterd Armory.

b.  Refer to enclosed map for directions.

9. MEAL RATE POLICY: Traditional Enlisted not receiving per-diem or BAS are furnished meals at no cost.

10. EMERGENCY NOTIFICATION PROCEDURES: During the drill weekend, there is a 24 hour Charge of Quarters (CQ) located in the S-1 Office of the Schaefer Building (410) 702-9666. Incoming DSN is 496-9666. Regimental FAX is (410) 702-9680.

11. PAY: MDARNG soldiers will be attached to the 1st Battalion (OCS), 70th Regiment (LDR). You will be paid by your home unit until you are attached to the 1-70th REG. The Regiment will send certificates of performance to USAR units who are responsible for paying USAR soldiers.

12. MISCELLANEOUS:

a.  Be prepared for inclement weather conditions. Visit the 70th Regiment website at http://www.angelfire.com/md2/70thregiment/ for announcements.

b. All students must arrive with hair, personal grooming, and uniforms IAW AR 670-1.

c. There is no military clothing sales on post. All items on the packing list must be acquired prior to arrival.

d. There is no bank or ATM on post.

e. TA-50 will be issued by 1st Battalion (OCS), 70th Regiment (LDR).
