Great Basin Institute is seeking a dedicated, service-minded professional who desires to make lasting, positive change for public lands and communities in Nevada and other Western states.By uniting environmental resources from federal, state and county agencies, GBI's conservation corps program provides individuals opportunities to make meaningful contributions toward protecting and conserving our public lands, while also gaining valuable work experience in the field of natural resource management.

The Associate Director will monitorfield crew schedules; support management of crew members; cultivate new agency partners and develop contracts for service; prepare responses to grant and agency RFPs; draft budgets for partners; coordinate monthly meetings and trainings; communicate regularly with the Program Director and project partners; assist in management and compliance of the AmeriCorps grant including data collection and reporting; ensure an excellent experience for project partners and AmeriCorps members. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are imperative.

Duties:

  • Assist Conservation Corps Program Director in the management and compliance of the AmeriCorps grant;
  • Review project requirements and project locations with potential project partners to determine if NCC crews can accomplish the proposed scope of work;
  • Generate budgets reflecting requirements outlined by project partners;
  • Assure field crews meet project deliverables within defined time period and scope of work;
  • Communicate regularly with project partners via phone and written correspondence, to assure their satisfaction with crew performance and that AmeriCorps members receive positive experience;
  • Cultivate new project partners to diversify our project base by responding to project partner RFPs;
  • Explore and secure project funding opportunities through researching and applying for grant funding;
  • Assists in the collection and management of data specific to the AmeriCorps grant and performance measurementsdevelop quarterly grant reports;
  • Process project data required to invoice project partners on a monthly basis;
  • Monitor scheduled dates of service with agency partners and ensure project agreements and/or MOAs are in place prior to deploying crews;
  • Support the completion of monthly project billing spreadsheets and review project agreements to ensure funds are available to cover planned work schedule;
  • Communicate project accomplishments and financial updates to project partners on a routine basis to ensure transparency on crew performance and project spending;
  • Support the development, coordination, and implementation the corps Leadership Development Program;
  • Assist GBI Associate Director in operations and maintenance of the Las Vegas field station;
  • Follow and enforce policies detailed in GBI Personnel Handbook; and
  • Other duties as assigned.

Compensation:

  • Annual Salary Range: $45,000 – $55,000 DOE
  • Paid Health, Dental and Vision benefits covered 100% by Great Basin Institute
  • 401K Retirement Plan with 4% Matching Contribution

Location:

  • Las Vegas, NV

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in environmental studies, nonprofit management, or related field(s) required;
  • Minimum of two years’ experience with project management or leading/managing field crews required;
  • AmeriCorps or National Service experience preferred;
  • Conservation Corps experience preferred;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally, with a diverseaudience;
  • Strongly developed organizational skills and ability to self-motivate;
  • Familiarity with regional environmental community-based agencies, services and resources;
  • Good interpersonal and organizational skills, with the ability to balance and integrate task-oriented and process-oriented responsibilities;
  • Experience using hand-held GPS equipment for data collection and navigation;
  • Ability to work in harsh, ever-changing desert conditions;
  • Valid, state-issued driver’s license and familiarity driving 4WD vehicles on pavement and off-road;
  • Driven, patient and adaptable; and
  • Willingness to travel on average one week per month.
