JERRY SLATON SCHOLARSHIP
The Jerry Slaton Scholarship is being established to leave a continuing legacy for the students of the Hanston area. This gift of hope and belief in the students will allow us toassist them in future years to further their education and become leaders of our community and country.
This community foundation is being formed under the umbrella of the Community Foundation of Southwest Kansas to manage funds donated to this cause. A community foundation exists to benefit the local community. It is a nonprofit organization, a 501c(3) organization. All donated funds are tax deductible and will be used for scholarships for the Jerry Slaton Scholarship.
Community foundations act as a conduit for charitable giving. The gift travels through the community foundation, is invested by the Community Foundation of SouthwestKansas and all funds designated to the Jerry Slaton Scholarship will be awarded tostudents from the Hanston area. This enables any interested individual to donate moniesto be invested in the future of Hanston area students without having to cope with setting up a special-purpose nonprofit corporation. This also enables us to benefit from the expertise of financial management found in larger philanthropic organizations.
Scholarship Criteria
- The applicant must be a resident of the Hanston area with an academic standingof at least 3.0 or higher who is going to attend an accredited technical school, or a two or four year college or university.

- Participation in community service activities defined as activities outside of the school arena such as Scouts, 4-H, and other communality activities.
