√ Review Minutes from Prior Meeting / Minutes Approved. Introductions of entire group.
√ State of the School / Thank you to the community and parents for their support during staff appreciation last week. PTO lunch, YMCA and Judah Church doing car line, gifts - all very appreciated.
Personalized Learning Initiative: WP has been accepted. There are 16 or 17 other schools in cohort. Looks closely at best practices for what each child needs and designing creative and innovative ways to reach that child. Plan developed for what each child needs. Provides for Summer Workshop to design how it will fit for WP, Professional Development during the school year. Funded by Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Goal: Teachers facilitate learning through student engagement. Shifting ownership from teacher to student. How can we tailor to each child and have them help with their own learning. Tech will support student goals, i.e. playlist on ipad for solo study time. This is done in 5th now, fits into what we3 are already doing. Will help us to expand to other grades.
EOGs: 5/21 - 5th science. 5/26 - 3rd, 4th, 5th reading. 5/27 - 3rd, 4th, 5th math. 30 proctors needed 8:30-12:30 each day because of small groups, spread the word. PTO ask room parents to send a note, include dates and times.
AU Classes: 2 new self-contained classes next year, 4 total. Performance yesterday with AU kids and 4th grade buddies a big success.
Summer Reading Program: "Dive Into A Good Book" Ms. Radford putting together. Info out soon, will have incentives (popcorn, pizza, ice cream parties), journal to turn in, fights summer regression of skills.
Club News: Next Wed (5/20) Mr. B. meets with club teachers to plan next year & get info out before summer break to expedite selection. looking for parent and community members to share talents with clubs.
√ Officer voting for 2015-2016 school year / Overview of Board Positions for SLT given. Voting process, responsibilities, term limits explained. New parent positions discussed- Role is to share what SLT is doing with other parents, attend meetings to share with SLT parent concerns and work on SIP to modify goals each year.
Motion to begin voting put forth by Keirsten Huth, seconded by Dana Wascher. The following positions all voted on and elected unanimously: Chair, Dana Wascher; Vice Chair, Rocio Gonzalez; Secretary, Keirsten Huth; 1st Grade Parent Reps, Tim Tippett and Stacy O'Hara.
Still needed: Parent Reps for PreK, K, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th.
√ End-of-year planning / 3rd grade gold trip rescheduled for 5/19 due to rainout.
Reading Ranger Day 5/22
Memorial Day 5/25, no school
Field Days: 6/8 - PreK and K @ 9:30- 11:30, 1stand 2nd @ 12:30- 2:30. 6/9 - 1/2 of 4th @ 9:30-11:30, 1/2 4th and 5th @ 12:30-2:30.
5th grade Picnic 6/10 11:45-1:45, Promotion 6/11 @ 8:45.
1st grade Vocabulary Parade 6/10 @ 2:45
√ PTO update / Board meets next week to set date for final meeting of the year.
√ Parent Concerns / Is 3rd and 5th Personalized Learning funding in question? WP is committed to continuing the program and expanding to 4th. Administration is meeting often to make it happen regardless of $, waiting for staff changes to be finalized. Lots of growth and success stories in the program.
