N97 Initial Setup

-Install PC Suite from

-for phone model select N97 & download PC Suite software

-Select current region: “United States of America”

-Select current city: “New York, NY”

-Set current date: mm/dd/yyyy

-Set current time

Software update

-Insert SIM card into back of phone underneath battery

-connect device to computer using USB cable

-select “PC SUITE” for USB mode

-Open PC Suite software on computer

-Select “Nokia Software Updater” icon (bottom right corner of icons, green arrow)

-Select “Start”

-Select “Next”

-updater will show current & update firmware versions.

-Check the box to install update

-Select “install”

-DO NOT DISCONNECT PHONE DURING UPDATE, this will take about 10minutes

Image the phone

The Phone Image will be on Tech Drive.

Troubleshooting the Nokia N97

When students request service in the Con Area after receipt of their phone, eachdevice needs to be checked for the latest software.

Use the keypad and enter Code *#0000# (Software Version information will display)

Version = V12.2.024 (This is the most current version)

Language= 28

Model= N97

Type = RM-507

MAC Address Recording: You will find the WLAN Mac Address under the Battery for the N97

Or you can enter *#62209526# (A Screen will appear at bottom with MAC Address Info.)

All new Phones will Require this software update which must be done via connection to a PC and Nokia Software Updater installed. You can obtain this software from this link:

Install PC Suite

Backing up Device

Prior to the Software update, it is highly recommended you back up your existing settings and data to your PC. Start by Clicking the Vault/Safe on the Nokia PC Suite


Select Back up Desired Phone contents / saved on PC.

Place Check-mark in all boxes. The Destination file will be selected automatically.

You will see a progress bar as sections are copied. Please DO NOT disconnect your phone during this process as data may be lost.

This process should run for approximately 10 minutes +/-.

You will be informed when the backup is completed and have the option of maintaining a log. PCSS Staff (when servicing phones should maintain logs of backups and service records in intertrac) Copy the log file to an external drive.

The steps to Restoring files to the phone is very similar. You would select the Vault/Safe from the PC Suite and follow the prompts. This screen will also indicate to the user when the last backup was made.

You will be able to select which Restore date you wish as well as content you would like restored.

Either of these processes can be aborted and restarted.

Connecting to the Wireless Network

Application specific connections to be configured during hand-out to students.

How to Setup Mail for Exchange

Navigate to Menu and then “Messaging” and select "Mail for Exchange". There is a shortcut on the display for the wizard. Select set up e-mail widget.

Follow instructions.

Enter your email address in the form of or

Domain:shu.edu

Mail Server:mail.shu.edu

Username:oseichar (SHU short name (last 6 characters of your last name) and fir two character of your first Name)

Type of Mail:Mail Exchange should be selected instead of POPMAIL

Follow the instructions to install Exchange

Upon installation make sure that your calendar, contacts, task are part of the synchronize.

Also change the off peck time settings to Always for new mails to be delivery on time during nights.

For Nokia N97 change the setting such that email is stored to the E:Mass Memory

(this can be found by going to Messaging-> Mail for Exchange-> Setting -> Other)

When you receive a new phone for configuration the following is needed:

Turn Phone on

Set Regional Settings (Set To USA) / New York

Set Date and Time

Cancel Welcome Wizard

Remove all Applications from phone.

Select Options

Select Open Apps

Select Settings

Select Applications Manager

Select Installed Apps.

Select Options

Select Uninstall

Do this for All Applications

Run Firmware upgrade

Restore from SD Card

Restart Phone

Restoring Student Image to Phone

Open Nokia PC Suite and Select Student Image dated ( )

Make sure all boxes are checked.

If you receive an error about space restrictions. You need to return to application manager and make sure you removed all applications then retry.

Copying Applications from PC to N97

Drag and drop to PCSuite Phone. SIS Files should be done Individually as they will all try to load utilizing the same application installation tool and fail. SISX and Nokia applications can be blocked and dragged en mass to device for install.

Hard Reset

By Pressing [Arrow Up] [Space] and [Backspace] during power up you will reset phone to Factory Defaults. Try this method if no response if code method does not work. Document and files are not affected by this reset.
