Minutes

KW thanked everyone for coming and apologised for changes to the date due to the recent Ofsted at Manor Park. Congratulations again to Manor Park! The group discussed the agenda for the next meeting and we set up a list of agenda items for the new group. KW outlined that Jenna would like to lead the group from now on as KW will be on maternity leave, many thanks to Jenna!

We discussed the need to set up a timetable to be set up and meeting dates for the year for the group so that all relevant agenda items can be covered (i.e., a good time to look at moderating writing across the mini-pyramid etc). As the new EYFS baseline is due to be implemented this September, we also put this as an agenda item so that people can discuss what evidence they are using to support the baseline judgements and discuss any issues. The EYFS baselines need to be complete within 6 weeks of children starting Reception.

  1. Creative ideas for outside areas

We spoke about what people were using for their outside areas. The following was discussed: the use of mud kitchens; drainage pipes on walls; tarpaulin, tyres and tiles (CB spoke about the usefulness of using the B&Q ‘School Scheme’ and asking for surplus materials from Topps Tiles!)

  1. Hooks for writing ideas.

The following ‘hooks’ were tried and tested! SP told the group that they had a Gruffalo’s tea party! Children wrote invitations to invite family members from home and children enjoyed writing their own menus. LW said that Manor Park had recently done a ‘Grab a granny!’ where children wrote to their grandparents to come in and have a tea. Grandparents were also invited to bring in any old toys and discuss these with the children. Children wrote their own questions to ask the grandparents and each table had a ‘prompt’ sheet for talking written by the children. EL said that they recently had a lamb in and children enjoyed writing a recount of this experience. SP outlined that her class recently wrote to the local author Giles Andre and he was invited to come in and discuss his books - which he did! There were lots of lovely ideas from everyone in the group, thank you everyone for sharing your ideas.

KW thanked everyone for a good meeting and wished everyone a happy end of term. Thank you all for a lovely time leading the group and we are excited to have Jenna lead the group from now on!
