- Welcome: Minutes accepted, and should be posted on School web-site..
- Treasurer Report:(Barb Reynolds)
-Current account balance is ~$19,400, with almost $17,000 pending. With expenditures, the remaining balance is ~$23,000;
-Discussion of the financial funding requests resulted in unanimous Approval of the following:
- Musical (Hairspray): $1,500;
- Family Transition Programs: $4,000
- Technology (Chrome books & laptops): $5,000 (as a start, with more to be discussed at a later meeting);
- Staff Appreciation Lunch: $500;
- Graduation for gr. 8: $1,500;
- Funding for a school-wide program (i.e. Junglesports): up to $2,000 will be available.
- Principal’s Report:
- The Evergreen group has received grant money. Ms. Pitkin will lead a project to revitalize the outdoor classroom, and plant indigenous plants in the front gardens. Plans are to add to this over the next few years;
- “Your Voice Counts” Survey: link on the web-site will be open until May, 2017. Families are asked to complete a Survey. Students will be encouraged to complete their Surveys, over the next few weeks;
- Social Media Presentation for Parents: On Thursday, April 27, OPP Officer Sanghera will be presenting a Workshop (*for parents only*) in the School library, from 6:00 – 8:00;
- Board Initiative: Humberview Secondary School will be hosting a presentation for “Empowering Modern Learners”. The discussion will be on evolving education and how to help schools manage the paradigm shift. All welcome to attend; April 25, 2017;
- Thank you letter received from ‘Healthy Schools Initiative’, for support of ‘The Big Gulp’ and other activities;
- Mr. McAusland will be looking for volunteers to support the Look-Run activity on Thursday, June 1st (rain date June 2). This will be a celebration of physical activity, with runners to be going throughout the day (7:15 to 3:00);
- “Hairspray” Play rehearsals have been ongoing. The Musical is scheduled for May 2, 3 and 4. Flyers will be sent home with students;
- “Me to We” (referred to as “We” at the School) will be teaming up with Fines Ford on May 13th. Fines Ford will donate funds for vehicle test drives on that day.
- Round Table Discussions:
-Awards for Teachers: looking for a possible way to thank the Teachers and Staff, for all the extras they do for the students. A potential “Award” that could be voted on by students; creating t-shirts with a ‘thank you’ message; giving cards. Further discussion deferred to next meeting.
-Allan Drive Rocks will be June 15. This will be a fundraiser, supporting Dare Arts – Indigenous Arts in the far North.
- Munch-a-Lunch Update: From Jayne Muise-Brown
- Orders for pitas have been decreasing. Do we want to consider having subs twice a week? This may be addressed in the “Your Voice Survey”. To be further discussed at next meeting.
