POSITION TITLE

*Baker Middle School Guidance Counselor

POSITION DESCRIPTION

*The primary purpose of this position is to support all students in receiving an appropriate education that will enable them to develop into responsible and caring adults. The counselor will facilitate social, emotional, and academic growth. The counselor will implement guidance programs following State and District goals that meet the individual needs and development of each student. Counseling sessions with students should provide both personal and academic guidance that will assist them in being academically and emotionally ready for success in high school.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

*Current Oregon License with proper endorsement. Master’s degree in Counseling or

ability to receive proper qualifications.

* Quality experience in working with middle school students and an extra-ordinary ability to build professional relationships with students and staff.

CONTRACT INFORMATION

*This position will begin in the fall of the 2016/17 school year

*The current salary scale, is $30,986 - 58,734 depending on years of experience and level of education. Baker School District 5J allows all years of experience to be used in placing the counselor on the salary schedule.

*Demonstrate knowledge of resources to assist students in selecting personal/educational goals;

*Able to select and utilize strategies to enhance students’ abilities to make choices;

*Think creatively and reflectively to develop student schedules;

*Able to engage students in learning and decision making;

*Communicate and provide feedback to students and families;

*Work effectively with colleagues and administration;

*Demonstrate flexible and creative alternatives in any counseling situation;

*Able to create an environment of respect and rapport with students.
