SPRING GLEN PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Dear Parents,

Hello! My name is Mrs. Bertolone-Templeton, “Ms. B” to the students and I will be your child’s physical education teacher this school year here at Spring Glen. I am SO looking forward to providing your child with an exciting and rewarding physical education program this new school year. The P. E. classes will prove to be an integral phase in their physical and social development. I take pride in my program and am committed to giving my students the best instruction possible.

The aim of the physical education program at Spring Glen School is to develop and improve students’ personal fitness and motor skills by providing developmentally appropriate activities through purposeful, creative and enjoyable instruction. By incorporating challenging yet achievable tasks, the students will attain positive attitudes about physical activity and movement.

Your child’s locomotor movement, manipulative skills, personal behavior, and fitness level will be monitored and assessed throughout the school year. The Connecticut Physical Fitness Assessment is required for students in grades 3, 4, 5 and 6, and will be administered during the months of September, October and November. The CPFA standards and guidelines will be sent home soon so you can help prepare your child for this test, and I will also send home a report at the end of testing for each student stating their scores. Please visit www.PERockss.com for more information regarding this test, as well as frequent PE updates!

Every child is expected to participate to the best of their ability each day they attend class. There are days however, when illness or injury may inhibit your child’s ability to participate. If so, please send a note with your child with a brief description regarding the nature of the restriction. If the condition restricts activity for more than 2 consecutive days, a doctor’s note will be required.
I am concerned about your child’s safety and for that reason; I ask that they wear athletic or running type shoes to PE class. Shoes with heals, boots or sandals, as well as crocs make it difficult for children to participate safely. I strongly encourage students to wear socks with their shoes and all children should come to school on PE days dressed in comfortable, loose fitting clothing that looks great when upside down or rolling on the floor. Students in grades 5 and 6 are ENCOURAGED to bring a change of clothes to school to QUICKLY change in to before PE time, using the bathrooms located in the gymnasium.

All classes will be assigned two set days of Physical Education each week based on a 5 Day, (A through E) rotation. The classroom teachers will have schedules posted in their classrooms and a master schedule will also be posted on the P.E. website.

During PE class, students are often caught doing awesome things that I would like to share with our community by snapping a photo and posting it to social media, via our Hamden website and PERockss. If you do NOT want your child’s picture to be taken during class time, please email me and I will make sure to abide by your request.

Want to continue the fun at home? www.GoNoodle.com is a great in the classroom and at home FREE resource that you can do with your child! Just sign up (FOR FREE), pick a “monster”, engage in physical activity and watch him grow! We just LOVE GoNoodle here at Spring Glen!

Any questions please feel free to contact me. If you search for my name on the Hamden or Spring Glen website, you will find me under Kristyna Templeton (not Bertolone). You can also just email me at . I look forward to working with you and your child this school year J

Sincerely,

Kristyna Bertolone-Templeton
