Mechanical Engineer, Spacecraft Systems

Microsat Systems Canada Inc (MSCI), a privately held company located in the GTA near PearsonInternationalAirport, is looking for an individual to assume a Mechanical Engineering leadership role in the development and advancement of its microsatellite systems and satellite components. MSCI has provided satellite components worldwide since its inception in 1975, and was prime contractor in the development and operation of Canada’s MOST microsatellite that launched in 2003 and the NEOSSat microsatellite that launched in 2013. Both satellites are still in operation today.

This is a full time permanent position.

The candidate must hold as a minimum a bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university and be licensed to practice as a Professional Engineer in Canada, or be eligible to obtain such a license.

Reporting to the Program Manager, Microsatellite Programs, you perform the duties to successfully design, analyze and deliver flight hardware mechanical components, assemblies and complete spacecraft. This includes the following activities:

-Developing space hardware designs using SolidWorks

-Analyzing structural characteristics and performance of spacecraft designs using NASTRAN finite element analyses

-Starting with SolidWorks models of existing designs and implementing design modifications

-Perform tolerance analysis for mechanical designs to ensure correct assembly

-Generate clear and correct manufacturing drawings for machining purposes

-Supporting technical information exchanges with the customer to accommodate the integration of customer-furnished equipment into spacecraft designs

As an ideal candidate, you have a keen interest in spacecraft and space missions. You have skills and experience mechanical design and manufacturing with accompanying knowledge of materials. You are competent in generation and interpretation of machining drawings, layout drawings, and assembly drawings. Experience in building electro-mechanical hardware will be an asset. Knowledge of radiative and conductive heat transfer is an asset.

Of equal importance are personal and team-building skills that can help foster a positive and exciting team environment. Aerospace industry experience of 5 years or more in a related field is ideal. Eligibility for government of Canada Controlled Goods registration is a requirement for this position.
