3. The AEIS School Advisory Committee (SAC) met for their second meeting of school year 2014-2015
4. Old Business:
a. Mrs. Cooley said there were no complaints concerning pick up and drop off safety issues. She believes this is due to more teachers being available for crossing guards and extended hours for paras, allowing for them to be out there helping.
b. Ms. Bender passed around and addressed areas in the Community Connections list that still needed to be followed up with.
c. Alternate SAC meeting times were discussed and it was decided that Mrs. Thompson would ask for parental feedback in the next Firebird Flyer.
d. Mrs. Thompson addressed the school supply list. It was mentioned that parents were spending a lot of money on supplies that weren’t needed in their individual classrooms. Mrs. Tull agreed, saying it was very costly and would appreciate having people wait until they meet with their teacher to find out what was really needed. Mr. Fili mentioned the supplies might be gone at that point, if it wasn’t presented as such, island wide. Ms. Bender agreed to draft up a letter to be presented district wide to help alleviate cost to the parents and a buildup of unnecessary supplies in the classrooms.
5. New Business:
a. Ms. Cooley encouraged everyone to talk about and participate in the 2014 Speak Up Survey. She stated that she believed the feedback would be genuinely looked at and taken into consideration. She also stated that it was understood that most parents were indeed reading the Firebird Flyer.
b. Ms. Bender initiated a motion to approve the previous meeting minutes. Mr. Pruitt put it in motion. Mrs. Tull made a motion to second.
c. Mrs. Cooley addressed the concern with the ICE comments. She stated that while the school had received several positive ICE comments, many of the negative ones were being submitted without her having knowledge of any problem. A suggestion was made to resubmit the chain of command reminder in the Firebird Flyer.
6. Mr. McNeace made a motion to close. Mrs. Thompson made a motion to second.
7. Meeting adjourned at 4:10
