2018-2019 ASB APPLICATION DIRECTIONS

ASB Applications are online. Go to the Temescal Canyon website click on Activities and then ASB. There is a link to our elected and appointed position application for you to click on to complete your application on-line. Applications must be completed by 11:59 PM on FRIDAY FEBRUARY 23. NO LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED UNLESS POSITIONS ARE OPEN!

Read ASB class & position descriptions and decide what position to apply for. Some of these have changed from last year so please read carefully. If you want to just be a class representative, please click on Class Representative for the ASB class you are interested in being part of next year.

Complete the OnlineASB Application found at or on our ASB website at click on Activities and then on ASB. Be sure to access the application for 10th-12th grade students, not the incoming 9th grade application.

ELIGIBILITY:

In order to run for office or be appointed to a position, including class representative, you must meet the following criteria:

1.2.5 GPA on last term’s report card (not cumulative GPA) and no U’s in citizenship. You must maintain a 2.5 GPA in order to remain in ASB.

2.ONE YEAR ASB EXPERIENCE if you are applying for Senior Class President, ASB Vice President, Historian, Speaker of the House, Director of Link Crew, Senate Majority leader, Director of Titan Pride, Communications Director or Director of Titan TV.

3.TWO YEARS ASB EXPERIENCE if you are applying for ASB President and you also must be a senior.

4.Class officer candidates must be a member of the corresponding grade level.

ASB CLASS DESCRIPTIONS:

Each ASB class is in charge of different events. Read each description and indicate on your application what ASB class you would like to be a part of next year. Some commissioners are found in all 5 classes and some are specific to one of the ASB class.

Senate: Representatives in the Senate class are called Senators and are responsible for all community service events (blood drives, canned food, recycling program, Pennies for Patients and campus pride days), Day on the Quad, Spring Fling, Winter Palooza, Elementary school red ribbon week assemblies, Homecoming Dance, all school-wide Dress Up Days, Random Acts of Kindness, Staff Recognition and ASB Peer Buddy program with our special needs students. Senator’s rotate committees every 9 weeks so they experience a variety of responsibilities.

Executive Assembly: Representatives in the Executive assembly class are called assembly members and are put into a council for the whole school year. They are responsible for all grade level events & dances, Winter Formal, Mr. Titan, Homecoming ½ time show, Pep Rallies, Boat Regatta,

PLUS: ThePLUSclassis responsible for all PLUS forums throughout the year.They also run Red Ribbon Week, Anti-Bullying Week, Kindness Week, Random Acts of Kindness Week, and Yellow Ribbon Week each year. They are also responsible forall lunchtime activities, school wideHomecoming decor, and the Academic Pep Rally. Students inPLUSare put into committee’s for the entire semester.

Link Crew: Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior representatives in the link crew class are responsible for all events that pertain to freshman throughout the school year. This includes freshman orientation, freshman welcome assembly, freshman activities, academic recognition for freshman, link leader events to keep them connected with their freshman, freshman mentoring and monitoring during the year and other activities decided on by the link crew class. **If you are interested in the Link Crew class, it is strongly encouraged that you participate in the summer link crew orientation, however it is not mandatory**

TV/Media: Representatives in Titan TV/Media are responsible for producing weekly Titan TV episodes, daily video announcements and live feed video at pep rallies and special events. They also are responsible for creating and producing new media related events and programs on campus.

Titan Pride: Representatives in Titan Pride will be responsible for all athletic promotion and recognition including but not limited to: blue hole advertising, planning and implementation, sports advertising, athlete of the month, athlete of the season, spirit point recognition, ping pong tournament, dodge ball tournament and athletic dress up days.

OFFICE RESPONSIBILITIES:

All ASB Officers, Class Officers and Commissioners work together to provide leadership and direction for the student body. In addition to the work performed by the Student Council as a total unit, each member has a specific task. The following are the official duties of each office. (Please note that this is only a brief description)

EXECUTIVE CABINET POSITIONS

The ASB President shall:
  • Serve as the official representative of the student body.
  • Preside over the meetings of the student council.
  • Give adequate leadership over all ASB functions.
  • Work with the Activities Director on Leadership curriculum.
  • Work with the ASB secretary on weekly business meeting agendas.
  • Serve as the Student Board Representative to the Lake Elsinore Unified School District Board of Trustees. (or appoint a replacement approved by the Principal and Activities Director)
  • Preside over impeachment hearings, if necessary.
  • Organize and plan both summer and winter retreats.
  • Coordinate and implement a grading policy that includes the collection of timecards and project journals.
  • Organize and run weekly cabinet meetings.
/ The ASB Vice President shall:
  • Assume the duties of the ASB President in the President’s absence.
  • Assemble and run a Student Congress including planning an agenda for and running the congress meetings.
  • Keep an up to date file of Student Congress meeting agendas and minutes in the Activities Director’s office.
  • Assist in the coordination of activities at Temescal Canyon High School, and take over for the ASB President as needed.
  • Plan and organize conferences for the Student Council to attend.
  • Chair the election committee to plan and organize ASB elections.
  • Collect and work with the ASB President to evaluate committee binders.

The ASB Treasurer shall:
  • Keep financial records of all ASB and club accounts with the assistance of the bookkeeper.
  • Sign ASB requisitions after approval by the Student Council.
  • Present financial reports to the Student Council for approval.
  • Chair over the adoption an annual budget, under the advisement of the bookkeeper and ASB Director.
  • Order supplies for the Student Council, when necessary.
  • Be responsible for the financial state of all members.
  • Be responsible for ASB fundraisers to earn money to fund ASB student events.
  • Be responsible for any money necessary for an ASB only event.
/ The ASB Secretary shall:
  • Prepare the minutes of each Student Council meeting and maintain a file of the minutes. A file of these minutes shall be kept in the Activities Director’s and ASB accounting offices. Minutes must be e-mailed to appropriate personnel within 3 days of each business meeting.
  • Sign ASB requisitions in the absence of the ASB Treasurer.
  • Keep the TCHS Club’s Binder and organized club constitutions, club charters and meeting minutes for all TC Clubs.
  • Create ASB Database and ensure each ASB student receives a copy
  • Update calendar in the House of Bluez.
  • Compose any necessary correspondence for the student council.

The Director of PLUS shall:
  • Preside over the ASB PLUS class.
  • Coordinate all activities assigned to the PLUS class working with the appointed Commissioners.
  • Work with ASB President to plan curriculum for the class.
  • Coordinate and implement a grading policy that includes the collection of timecards and committee binders- work with the ASB President and Activities Director to design this system
  • Serve as a member of the ASB President’s cabinet and attend cabinet meetings.
/ The Senate Majority Leader shall:
  • Preside over the ASB Senate class.
  • Coordinate all activities assigned to the ASB Senate class working with the appointed Commissioners.
  • Work with the ASB President to plan curriculum and run the class.
  • Coordinate and implement a grading policy that includes the collection of timecards and project journals- work with the ASB President and Activities Director to design this system
  • Serve as a member of the ASB President’s cabinet and attend cabinet meetings.

Director of Link Crew:
  • Preside over the Link Crew class.
  • Coordinate all activities assigned to the Link crew class working with the appointed Commissioners.
  • Work with ASB President to plan curriculum for the class
  • Coordinate and implement a grading policy that includes the collection of timecards and project journals- work with the ASB President and Activities Director to design this system
  • Serve as a member of the ASB President’s cabinet and attend cabinet meetings.
/ Director of Titan Pride:
  • Preside over the Titan Pride class.
  • Coordinate all activities assigned to the Titan Pride class working with the appointed commissioners.
  • Ensure that ALL sports are recognized and celebrated during their season of sport.
  • Serve as a member of the ASB President’s cabinet and attend cabinet meetings.

Executive Director of Titan TV:
  • Preside over the Titan TV ASB Class
  • Coordinate all Titan TV episodes including filming, editing, commercials, special events etc.
  • Oversee and coordinate filming duties at pep rallies and special events.
  • Work with ASB President to plan curriculum for the class
  • Coordinate and implement a grading policy that includes the collection of timecards and project journals- work with the ASB President and Activities Director to design this system
  • Create and implement media related activities during the year
  • Serve as a member of the ASB President’s cabinet and attend cabinet meetings.
/ Creative Director of Titan TV:
  • Oversee and work with all commissioners/committees as needed for creative direction for daily announcements and Friday Episode of Titan TV.
  • Plan and film special interest pieces for Daily Announcements and Friday Episodes when needed.
  • Work with the Editing Director to plan, film and edit major videos (Welcome, Freshman Preview, Senior, etc.) for the year.
  • Work with other class members to teach them how to use our video/audio equipment.
  • Charge cameras before Pep Rallies, provides directions to camera operators during Pep Rallies, and breaks down equipment after.

Editing Director of Titan TV:
  • Oversee and work with the Editing Commissioner/Committee including teaching various editing skills/processes.
  • Edit all Pep Rally footage (as a full event, not highlights) for parents to watch on YouTube.
  • Edit special interest pieces for Daily Announcements and Friday Episodes when needed.
  • Work with the Director of Creativity on Majors videos (Welcome, Freshman Preview, Senior, etc.) throughout the year.
  • Set up, oversees, and breaks down the black box and computer at Pep Rallies
  • ***Must have experience working with various editing programs (iMovie, Adobe Premiere, Final Cut)

ASB Communications Director (5 total- one per ASB class excluding executive assembly) shall:
  • Work with ASB Secretary to create ASB database
  • Send weekly e-mail’s to students in your ASB class with information about upcoming events.
  • Communicate information about their ASB class for weekly business meetings.
  • Communicate with Titan TV and Social media about information that needs to be advertised for your ASB class.
  • Serve as a member of the class executive board and work with the class leader to accomplish class events/activities.
  • Serve as a member of the ASB President’s cabinet and attend cabinet meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned by ASB director or class leader.
  • There is a communications director in each ASB class except Executive assembly where the ASB secretary fulfills these duties.
/ Assistant Class Director (one per ASB class excluding executive assembly):
  • Assist the director of the class in running all class activities.
  • Assume the role of class director when the class leader is absent.
  • Assist in decision making and overseeing of class commissioners.
  • Serve as a member of the ASB President’s cabinet and attend cabinet meetings.

ONE OF THE FOLLOWING COMMISSIONERS IS IN EACH ASB CLASS:
The Commissioner of Public Relations shall: (one per class)
  • Coordinate all forms of on-campus publicity for class events, including, but not limited to, posters, flyers and handouts.
  • Communicate with Titan TV, local and school newspapers etc. about upcoming school events. Communicate important information to ASB Webmaster.
  • Prepare a weekly flush each week. (rotate this responsibility between the 3 PR commissioners)
  • Keep track of poster paint markers and paint, and keep the area clean.
  • Order poster making and tape supplies as necessary.
/ The Student Store Manager shall: (one per class)
  • Work together with the exec. Board and ASB President to control work schedules for the Student Store and display them in the appropriate public locations.
  • Fill out PO’s for items sold in the Student Store.
  • Be responsible for the cleanliness of the Student Store.
  • Supervise the actions that take place in the Student Store.
  • Keep inventory of all items sold through the Student Store.
  • Train all ASB students to work in the Student store.

Communications Director: (one per class-see description above) / The Commissioner of Internal Relations shall: (one per class)
  • Assist the President in running the Council member of the week and month program.
  • Plans student birthday recognition
  • Recognize student council members in weekly business meetings for their success both in ASB and in other areas.
  • Plans monthly ASB activities for members to have fun together.
  • Plans at least one leadership bonding lesson per month with the assistance of the Activities Director to promote fun, family and growth among leadership students.
  • Coordinate the “KISS” recognition program on a daily basis.
  • Implement the RAOK program

LINK CREW CLASS COMMISSIONERS
Commissioner of Activities:
  • Plan freshman only events throughout the year
  • Work with the Director of Link Crew to coordinate freshman link crew orientation on the first day of school
  • Put on the freshman BBQ before the first home football game, before a basketball game and before a baseball or softball game.
  • Plans and executes freshmen movie nights
  • Other duties as assigned
/ Commissioner of Academic Support:
  • Reward freshman for academic success at each grading period
  • Coordinate tutoring opportunities for freshman who are struggling.
  • Plan and execute cram sessions for freshman to study together before final exams.
  • Intervene with freshman who get D’s and F’s and work with them on ways to improve their grades.
  • Other duties as assigned

Commissioner of 5 Star:
  • Records freshmen attendance at link crew events
  • Analyzes what freshmen are coming to events and who isn’t and then determines why freshmen are not attending.
  • Works with the activities commissioner to plan events for the freshmen who aren’t attending the current events.
  • Rewards freshmen quarterly for participation and accumulating spirit points.
  • Other duties as assigned

SENATE CLASS COMMISSIONERS
The Commissioner of Activities shall:
  • Plan Red Ribbon week assemblies at Elementary schools.
  • Plan all extended lunch days- Day on the Quad, Winter Palooza and Spring Fling.
  • Plan and execute International week (new event) in the spring.
  • Plan 1 BREAK TIME activity per month- could be games, competitions, student surveys etc.
  • Plan and execute music at Break on Fridays
  • Other duties as assigned which could include planning Airbands, Talent show or Dancing with the staff.
/ The Commissioner of Blood Drives & Community Service:
  • Organize shifts per period for ASB students to work
  • Take blood drive donor appointments for the student body
  • Create and design appointment reminder cards to pass out to the student body
  • Supervise set-up / clean-up of the Blood Drive
  • Supervise the Blood Drive Event
  • Coordinate the weekly recycling program
  • Coordinate all community service activities including but not limited to: canned food drive, pennies for patients drive, peanut butter and jelly drives for HOPE.
