Description / On Monday, 29 April and Tuesday, 30 April, the Cleveland Institute of Music is offering a special multipoint presentation of our class “La Musica de Mexico”!
In this session , students explore a variety of genres of Mexican folk music (including son jarocho, mariachi, ranchera, and norteno) as well as Mexican classical music in this highly interactive, participation-based videoconference.
This session is being offered as a special multipoint event at the following times:
Monday, 29 April from 1:00 to 1:45 PM Eastern
Tuesday, 30 April from 10:00 to 10:45 AM Eastern
Each session will be “presentation only” and we will have a chat room set up to manage interaction between all participating sites. Cost for participation in the session is only $50.00 per site!

Objectives / Students will explore Mexican culture through music.

Students will identify the influence of Mexican music in the United States.
Format / 1.Activity: Students compare and contrast two versions of La Bamba, one rock n roll and one son jarocho.
2.Discussion: The heritage of Mexican music.
3.Activity: Distinguishing between duple and triple meter.
4.Discussion: Mariachi
5.Activity: Identifying the use of sesquialtera in Mariachi music.
6.Discussion: Norteno
7.Activity: Students demonstrate understanding of theme and variations in conjunto music through music.
8.Live music demonstration: Classical music from a Mexican composer.
