All K-12 students are invited to submit projects!
- Animation
Animation refers to the use of technology to create time sequence or a series of graphic images or frames together to give the appearance of continuous movement. Projects should include motion with characterdesign, layout, foreground, and background. Video compression should be applied as needed for optimalviewing. To be acceptable, files must be submitted in .avi, .mpg, or .mov formats. Software such asMovieMaker, iMovie, Pinnacle, Premiere, PowerPoint and Macromedia Studio can be used. Projects mustbe no more than three (3) minutes in length.
Examplesinclude frame animation (e.g. Claymation), dimensional animation (e.g. Flash), splash screens for websites, opening titles for films, simulations, video animation (e.g. 3D models in motion), Powtoon, Go Animate, etc. See more at
2. Digital Audio
Editing or manipulating a sound in a digital format to create an original composition. Projects should use current digital audio programs for recording, editing, sequencing, and mixing for a variety of outputs and applications.Maximum audio length 3 minutes.
Examples include podcasts, radio jingles, Public Service Announcements (PSAs), original music compositions, etc. See more at
- Digital Photography
Applying computer technology to create digital artwork. Quality digital graphics projects follow good design principles including composition, meaningful messages, and original or manipulated components. Graphics should be viewable electronically. Preferred software programs are Adobe Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Illustrator, Macromedia Freehand, and CorelDRAW. Other suggested software that could be used: Fireworks, Paint Shop Pro, GIF Animator, GIMP, TuxPaint (without stamps), KidPix (without stamps), MS Paint, and Geometer’s Sketchpad. Project should be saved in its native program and a hard copy provided.
- Digital Video
The production of audio and video files stored in a digital format for editing or playback. Digital video presentations are created for the purpose of showcasing educational ideas. Projects must demonstrate the use of digital video editing techniques. Software such as MovieMaker, iMovie, Pinnacle, and Premiere can be used. Video compression should be applied as needed for optimal viewing. To be acceptable, videos may be submitted in any viewable format not requiring conversion, (.avi, .mpg, .mov, .m4v, .wmv, etc. are all acceptable.) Maximum video length 3 minutes.
Examples include Public Service Announcements (PSAs), commercials, news stories, interviews, dramas, documentaries, instructional videos, longer news stories, and abstract/experimental videos, etc. See more at
- Desktop Publishing
Desktop publishing is the design and layout of type, graphics, and images to create print media that communicate information.Please submit products in PDF format or in a graphic format, such as .jpg.
Examples include multi-page flyers, newspapers, book jackets, books, menus, magazine covers, brochures and calendars, etc.
- Multimedia Projects
Multimedia projects use technology to integrate multiple types of media simultaneously, to present or interact with content. The project should include elements such as text, audio, animation, graphics, video, user interactivity, or any other form of information representation.
Examples include interactive tutorials, slide show presentations, Blabberize, Haiku Deck, Popplet, etc. See more at
