NIGHT SUPPORT WORKER
JOB DESCRIPTION
Role: Night Support Worker
Responsible to: Registered Care Home Manager and Deputy Unit Manager
Location: Wembley, HA9
St Martin’s have three registered care homes where 24 hour support is provided to between 18 and 23 men of working age. Residents have often spent considerable time in institutional settings, i.e. hospitals or prisons. Residents are furthermore unable to live more independently at the present time in their lives due to the challenges of having to overcome the impact of having chronic long term mental health needs, and in some cases also having become trapped in debilitating alcohol and drug taking lifestyles.
Night Support workers provide a waking presence ensuring that residents are safe, secure and supported and available to residents at all times where needed andthat scheduled tasks are completed to a high standard.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks Include:
· To remain awake throughout the night and provide, as part of a night support team, a supportive presence for residents, and attend to their needs as they arise.
· To ensure the health and safety of residents in accordance with St Martins policies, in particular in respect of evacuation in the event of fire.
· To carry out regular checks in the Project, monitoring and reporting on the conditions of the bathroom, toilets and other communal areas.
· To administer medication and carry out weekly medication checks for residents.
· Ensure that the Project is kept safe and clean and check that appropriate reporting action is taken on defects.
· Ensure the Project is secure by regular patrols throughout the night, monitoring of external doors and access to and from the building.
· Monitoring the security of the building and its grounds, taking appropriate reporting action where necessary including calling the police and the on-call manager.
· Ensuring all visitors are signed in and out and that the visitors’ policy is strictly adhered to.
· Dealing with telephone and general enquiries from outside agencies, on–call staff and staff from other units in an appropriate manner.
· To ensure all occurrences are recorded on the site’s communication systems and that regular communication takes place with other team members on duty throughout the night.
· To keep account of individual petty cash float.
· To carry out all necessary administrative tasks as needed.
· To adhere to St Martin’s policies and procedures, including Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities etc.
· To attend and contribute to regular (minimum 6 per year) supervisions with the line manager.
· To attend and contribute to regular (minimum 6 per year) staff meetings.
· To attend and contribute to an annual appraisal with the line manager.
· To attend mandatory and relevant training.
· To carry out other duties as may be reasonably requested.

SALARY & BENEFITS
Salary Scale

Grade 2 £19,499.58
Grade 3 £20,215.25
Pay You will be paid at Grade 1 of your Band upon joining St Martins.
Holidays You will receive 25 days pro rata leave each year, in addition to statutory public holidays, for the first two years service; you will then be entitled to 28 days holiday. In your fourth year you will be entitled up to a maximum of 30 days.
Probationary Period 6 Months

Hours A shift/rota system will apply to this post, although working nights will vary dependent upon the projects requirements. Working hours are an average of 77 hours over two weeks including an hour’s break during each shift which is from 9.00 p.m. to 8.00 a.m.
