An inaugural event bringing together the partnership of:

Carrie, Peter and Karyn offer a collaborative perspective on topics important and sometimes problematic for Early Childhood Professionals. Their forum discussion will enable participants to explore the topics of communication and behaviour and take away ready to use ideas

The forum presentation and discussion will:

  • Focus on emergent curriculum principles that provide an array of effective strategies to ensure a supportive environment for the development of children’s behaviour and communication skills.
  • Facilitate discussion within their specialisation connecting strategies and techniques to assist Early Childhood Professional’s in every day practice particularly with challenging children.

Who are the facilitators?

Karyn Johns is a Speech Language Pathologist who has worked with children and families for 19 years both interstate and on the Gold Coast. She has experience working for a number of agencies including Education Queensland, private schools and more recently consulting to the Commonwealth funded Communities for Children Initiative in the Northern Gold Coast. Finally, she is a partner in a thriving private practice (S.P.E.E.C.H) on the coast. Karyn is passionate about sharing information and strategies with families, teachers and early childhood professionals that will support language, literacy and social skills development. Her work includes clinical practice with individual children and their families, consultation advice and writing of school curriculum programs, role modelling activities in child care settings and classrooms, conducting workshops, and co-producing resources and materials.

Peter Melrose has been working in the social welfare sector for around 20 years. He has extensive practitioner experience in both government and non-government work throughout Queensland and interstate with families and children and young people. Peter operates a private practice specialising in therapeutic work with children and young people who display aggressive behaviours and their families and carers. Peter provides training and professional development throughout Queensland and has written several practice articles as well as speaking regularly at child and family welfare conferences.

Carrie Rose has worked in early childhood education for 20 years. Her experience ranges from her current Owner/Contact Director position at Rosie’s Early Learning, years of teaching across both private and community based child care, lecturing in early childhood education and consultancy work with over 50 child care centres in Queensland. Her passion focuses on using both emergent curriculum principles and designing environments to provide an engaging educational environment for young children.
