FROM THE BIG SIR

Happy New Year SIR. I trust all of you and your families had a great Christmas. The SIR Christmas Party last month was a great success. I think everyone who attended enjoyed themselves. Those of you who couldn’t make it missed a great event.

I look forward to being your Big Sir for this year. Hopefully, we will all have great times golfing, bowling, participating in other activities, and enjoying SIR camaraderie. See you all for the first meeting of 2014 on January 27.

SIR Branch 160

Board of Directors/Executive Committee Meeting

South Lake Tahoe, CA.

The scheduled meeting of SIR Branch 160 for November was held at Tep’s Villa Roma restaurant.

Big Sir Tom Sawyer called the meeting to order at 10:05 AM. A quorum of 8 was present of the Branch Executive Committee (BEC).

Our guest speakers will be Vince Janette and Jerry Homme of the El Dorado County Juvenile Services. There were three other guests in attendance: Chuck Wilson (SIRs Area Governor); Ralph Lingis (current Region 2 Director) and Russ Salazar (our Region 2 Director for 2014).

The minutes of the October 24th meeting were corrected and amended to include an additional get well card was sent to Pat Dugan also, in addition to her husband, Dave Dugan. This change was approved and adopted.

Treasurer’s Report: Mike Davis reported our beginning cash balance was $2524.09 and our ending balance is $2452.18, which does not include petty cash of $200.

Big Sir Report: Tom Sawyer thanked both Dan Kerr and Joe McKenna for stepping in and running our last BEC meeting in both a short and concise manner. Tom then introduced our three above noted guests from the SIRs state governing board. Each gentleman all spoke briefly.

Little Sir Report: Dan Kerr relayed the latest menu from Tep’s for our annual Christmas party on December 16th, which runs from 11 AM to 3PM. The costs will be $50 per couple, or $25 per member, and all monies should be forwarded to Treasurer Mike Davis. The cutoff date remains December 9th. Dan further relayed that Larry Coffman will acquire table decorations as in past practice and we still need more silent auction gift items too. Finally, Dan suggested that perhaps our callers could be used to notify each member of the Christmas party details in order to increase fun and festive participation.

Activities Report: Dave Dugan is planning cross-country skiing as an activity, perhaps to be held at the local community college as they now have a grooming machine to keep the trails open and in good shape. Robert Fleischer indicates the total cost for the year to ski at the college is only $30 per couple and George Ramirez reports an ample supply of good, used equipment can be had at the Attic thrift shop, where George volunteers in his spare time.

Membership Report: George Ramirez reports two new members are to be voted on today: Roger Koplin and Van Marshall. Roger was sponsored by Tim Hall and Van by Larry Coffman. Nice work gentlemen in recruiting such fine individuals.

Attendance: Ron Rathburn states we have 111 total members, plus the addition of the two aforementioned recruitments. Ron also states, with his new mustache a-growin, that we now have 9 snowbirds flocking to various desert locations for the season.

Sunshine Report: Mike Vadnais indicates a sympathy card was recently sent to the widow of Mack Brown and that a card was also sent to long time member Harold Bogardous (sp?).

2.

Bowling Report: Bobby Silvius stated 26 on-time members with 4 additional late arrivals participated in last Friday’s bowling event which was a huge success and fun too, per the participants. Also being discussed is a grudge match with various other groups not using a PBA member such of the caliber of our new member Roger Koplin of Gold Dust West fame. Boy, aren’t we lucky to have such a gem in our group. Go Bobby and team!

Rooster Sales: Bill Chambers reports he has both white and blue golf hats for sale at the unheard of price of $10 each. I know of several SIR members needing to cover up to avoid harmful sun exposure. Just ask Les Patterson for his wise counsel.

Golf Report: Sig Heidemann reports his magnificent 2014 SIR golf tournament schedule has been sent out on email and final contracts will all be signed by early January next year. If you have any suggestions (no complaints are accepted) or can assist with helping reduce the costs involved for each tournament with your generous donation (see below), please email him. Sig or Zig as he is affectionately known to a certain SIRS with the initials of D.K. would love to hear from you.

Web Site Update: Robert Fleischer reports he is still searching for additional news from committee chairpersons for inclusion into his fine effort on our web site.

Old Business: Mike Vadnais and his two compatriots, Al Bartley and George Perusits, did an excellent job cajoling and otherwise terrorizing potential recruits for Branch Executive Committee (BEC) positions for next year. Thus, our slate of fine candidates are as follows: Ron Thompson as Big Sir (with a broken arm he says); Little Sir Bill Sluka; Secretary to be Derek Smith with assistant Secretary to be Dan Gordon; our Treasurer continues to be Mike Davis (yea Mike for continuing to be totally and financially involved), and assistant Treasurer will be Leo Fuller. Thank you gentlemen for stepping up and fulfilling very important functions such as the continuing operation of Branch 160. We would not be able to do it without you! Following a very brief discussion, and seeing no other worthy applicants, the entire board of directors was voted in unanimously. This slate of candidates will be installed at our Christmas party on December 16th. Please come and wish them well and continued good wisdom and health, especially sore-armed Ron Thompson.

Old business: Treasurer Mike Davis reports two anonymous donations of $50 each were made to our branch. Thank you both!

New Business: The above two new members, Roger Koplin and Van Marshall, were voted into our branch unanimously.

The executive board meeting was adjourned by Tom Sawyer at 10:59 AM.
