THANE MAYNARD BRINGS ZOO ADVENTURES, CRITTERS TO MAIN LIBRARY

Although there’s an extensive collection of books available about the animal kingdom at the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, there is nothing like hearing the stories from a zookeeper who has experienced the animals first hand! The library is thrilled to welcome Thane Maynard, Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden Director, at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2 in the Reading Garden Lounge at the Main Library as he shares his adventures and knowledge of the animal kingdom.

As the director of the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, Maynard’s mission is to teach the general public about biological diversity, natural history, and wildlife conservation. He is the host of NPR’s “90-Second Naturalist,” and has been featured on “Good Morning America,” “The Today Show,” “CBS This Morning,” and “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.”

Available for purchase will be the book Hope for Animals and Their World: How Endangered Species Are Being Rescued from the Brink by Jane Goodall with a forward by Maynard. Maynard will also bring some of his critters and sign autographs.

In addition to the adventures of the animal kingdom, the Friends’ Shop will celebrate its 30-year anniversary featuring special guests, giveaways, Charley Harper merchandise, and discounts of up to 30 percent. Highlights include a “Best 80s Costume” contest. The winner receives a $30 gift certificate for use in the Friends’ Shop..

The Friends’ Shop is located on the Mezzanine Level of the Public Library, 800 Vine Street with hours from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Sunday.
