ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION POPPY TRUST FUND

PURPOSE:

With funding from the Fort Garry Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Trust Fund, the purpose of the grant is to provide support for a research project whose outcome contributes to enhancing care for older adults in Manitoba.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

  1. Principal Investigator must be a Professional Affiliate, Research Affiliate, Postdoctoral Fellow in the MCNHR.
  2. Research team members do not have to be members of the MCNHR.
  3. Projects related to graduate student thesis or dissertation research are eligible but the principal applicant must be the academic supervisor and they must hold a full time academic appointment in a faculty or school of nursing in Manitoba.
  4. Only research projects whose outcome contributes to either enhancing care of veterans or their families or projects focused on enhancing care for older adults in Manitoba are eligible.
  5. In cases of postdoctoral fellow applications, their supervisor must be a Co-Principal Investigator on the application and the supervisor will have signing authority over grant funds.

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS:

The deadline for receipt of applications is April 1, 2015.

FUNDING GUIDELINES:

1.Funding to a maximum of $3,000 will be provided for one year. Applications requesting more than $3,000 will not be considered. If, at the end of one year, the funds are not expended and the project is not completed, consideration will be given to the applicant’s request to extend the termination date for one additional year. A request for extension of the grant must be made to the Director of the MCNHR at least one month prior to expiry of the grant. If funds are not expended or the project is terminated, all remaining funds must be returned to the MCNHR.

2.Funding is to cover direct research costs only, which may include personnel, equipment, supplies, travel for data collection purposes and travel to one conference to present study findings (to a maximum of $1,000). Any equipment purchased is the property of the University of Manitoba. No portion of the investigator’s salaries are to be included.

3.Grant funds will be administered by the MCNHR. For members who hold appointments outside the College of Nursing, the Director of MCNHR will have signing authority.

4.Receipt of funds is conditional upon approval of the research proposal by the Education Nursing Research Ethics Board, University of Manitoba. (

5.A final project report and a statement of expenditures must be provided to the MCNHR at the end of the grant term.

6.Publications and presentations arising out of the research must acknowledge the funding support of the Fort Gary Branch Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund.

7.The applicant, as requested by the MCNHR, will present findings at an MCNHR sponsored event.

8.Requests for full funding of a project will be given higher priority than requests for partial funding. If requests are for partial funding, applicants must explain their plans to secure additional funding to ensure their projects will be successfully implemented.

APPLICATION PROCESS:

One complete electroniccopy of the application isrequired. Applicants must complete the research grant application form and append a description of the project, not to exceed five (5) typewritten, single spaced pages, exclusive of appendices, font 12. The research proposal should address:

REVIEW PROCESS:

Applications will be reviewed by the MCNHR Research Grant Review Committee. Proposals will be assessed on the basis of:

Scientific merit

Contribution to either enhancing care of veterans or their families or contribution to enhancing care for older adults in Manitoba.

All applicants will be notified of the results by May 30, 2015. The successful recipient is expected to attend a presentation at the Fort Garry Legion in June (date to be announced) to receive the award.
