Kögel presents new chassis for tank containers – Port 20 Tankplex

Burtenbach, 27.August 2014

  • Secure transportation of liquid and gaseous cargos
  • Heavier loads through a clever design for a lighter body

Kögel is extending its diverse container chassis portfolio to include a semi-trailer container chassis for tank containers which has been developed from scratch. The new KögelPort 20 Tankplex will make its debut at the IAA Commercial Vehicles show. This tank container chassis wins points with its light basic model tare weight, a technical gross weight of 39,500 kilograms and a technically feasible fifth-wheel load of 14,000 kilograms. It is suitable for transporting 20-foot tank containers, as well as 20-foot ISO containers and swap trailers with a total length of up to 7.82 metres. In addition, the 20-foot container interlocks also allow the transport of 23 and 25-foot tank containers. It goes without saying that the new Port 20 Tankplex adheres to ADR guidelines as standard.

The new Port 20 Tankplex is currently one of the lightest tank container chassis on the market. This allows payloads of over 36,500 kilograms and therefore guarantees maximum operating efficiency for intermodal transport. The exceptional lightness is a result of the weight-optimised chassis and weight-saving standard fittings. These include, but are not limited to, rims and compressed air reservoirs made from aluminium. In order to ensure tank containers can be securely transported and easily handled, the 20-foot container interlocks are located in a central position, thereby optimising load distribution. As standard, the Port 20 Tankplex comes with a stainless steel leakage trough and plastic hose-pipes laid inside the frame for protection, as well as a work platform that can be easily removed for cleaning.

Maximum flexibility and safety when transporting liquid and gaseous cargoes

The new Kögel semi-trailer container chassis for tank containers is incredibly versatile: In addition to 20, 23 and 25-foot tank containers and 20-foot ISO containers, it also allows the transport of swap bodies with total lengths of 7.15 metres, 7.45 metres, and 7.82 metres. The safety equipment, which is fitted as standard and complies with ADR guidelines, corresponds to vehicle classes EX/II, EX/III, FL, OX and AT. Included in the ADR equipment is a fold-out extension ladder with climbing aid, fire extinguisher, ECE warning panel, and a grounding strap made from stainless steel.

Cathodic dip-paint coating: permanent protection against corrosion

As with all Kögel Port Containerchassis the entire vehicle frame of the Port 20 Tankplex is given long-lasting protection against corrosion by Nano Ceramic Technology and cathodic dip-paint coating, supplemented with UV painting.
