JOB DESCRIPTION

Position:Facilities & Special Projects Supervisor

Reports to:Director of Business & Finance

Employment Status:Regular/Full-time

FLSA Status:Exempt

Description:Under the direction of the Director of School Facilities or the Director of Business and Finance, the Supervisor of School Facilities and Special Projects provides leadership in the planning, coordination and management of the facility and maintenance responsibilities of the Board of Education.

Essential Functions:

●Ensure safety of students

●Assess and monitor facility repairs to ensure cost effectiveness

●Plan, schedule and assign employees to various cleaning, custodial maintenance, repair, renovation, ice and snow removal and building security tasks

●Monitor school building emergencies, including equipment breakdown, malfunctions, and alarm calls

●Oversee or assist in the oversight of the care and maintenance of lawns, walks, trees, shrubs, and grounds

●Verify school custodial time sheets for accuracy

●Supervise, coordinate, and review the work performed by hired contractors in the construction and mechanical trades including HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical, as well as fire and security alarms

●Assure projects are completed in compliance with applicable codes, specifications, standards, time schedules, and budgets

●Inspect buildings, equipment and premises for hazards and violations of safety codes and regulations

●Investigate and respond to school administrator complaints and requests

●Maintain records and prepare reports related to operations such as fuel usage logs, material safety data sheets, fire extinguisher inspections, emergency light inspections, and building maintenance activities

●Maintain an up-to-date Integrated Pest Management (IPM) plan for all buildings

●Address custodial personnel problems and situations, such as grievances and inefficiency

●Coordinate building usage needs and special event set-ups for internal school groups and community groups/rentals. Assign custodial staff as needed

●Purchase sufficient and appropriate custodial supplies and products for proper operation. Keep an accurate and updated inventory of supplies

●Assist in the preparation and presentation of the annual operating budget and estimates of expenditures

●Coordinate and attend meetings of the Permanent Municipal Building Committee (PMBC) at school facilities; prepare work orders and prepare responses to noted deficiencies

●Use computer applications such as spreadsheet, word processing, calendar, email and database software in the performance of the job

●Responsible for the daily operation and coordination of the custodial maintenance and cleaning of school facilities and grounds in order to provide clean, safe, efficient, environmentally healthy, and structurally sound facilities.

●Ensure that all school facilities and equipment are well maintained and preventative maintenance plans are in place

●Serve as district Asbestos Manager

●Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of School Facilities and the Director of Business and Finance

●Maintain the strictest confidence concerning personnel, students and operational concerns of the district

  • Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation
  • Report all cases of suspected child abuse to appropriate school personnel and proper government authority

●Respond to routine questions and requests with tact and diplomacy in a timely manner

●Interact in positive manner with staff, students and parents

Qualifications/Certificates:

●Bachelor’s degree Building Management, Management or other related discipline

●3 years successful supervisory experience preferred

●5 years’ successful maintenance experience

●Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Vernon Board of Education may find appropriate.
