SCCS Mentor Teacher Job Description
Sound Child Care Solutions (SCCS) is a 501(c)3 non-profit consortium of child care centers that have joined together to share leadership, business management, administration and professional development. The mentor teacher will help teachers integrate content from monthly communities of practice meetings in the classrooms to strengthen teacher pedagogy. The mentor teacher will lead and help develop content for monthly communities of practice. The mentor teacher provides understanding and approaches reflective practice in classrooms as a holistic approach to child development.
Responsibilities of the Mentor Teacher:
- Organize and deliver content for monthly communities of practice for two cohorts of Educators
- Organize and deliver content for quarterly communities of practice for Leadership
- Observe classroom routines, model and provide feedback to teachers
- Share classroom documentation samples and other classroom resources for teachers
- Write and submit monthly progress report to supervisor and Director
- Facilitate curriculum planning where needed, implementing the Reggio Approach, Montessori, or Teaching Strategies Creative curriculum
- Support teachers in development of pedagogical documentation
- Support teachers in connecting to families through documentation ofchildren
- Participate in center’s staff and Professional Development(PD) meetings
- Monitor performance of substitute pool staff and support as issues arise
- Participate and Support SCCS PD trainings, conferences, grant reporting and fund development
- Nurture and support SCCS core values as they relate to the mentor teacherrole
- Attend the UIR training, BCDI and Dual Language Conference, or Soy Bilingüe workshop
Required Qualifications:
- BA degree in the field of early education, child and family studies, or other human services
- Experience in side by side mentoring, classroom teaching, and teaching adults
- Commitment to social justice, such as having attended the Undoing Racism or Dismantling Racism training including experience with culturally relevant anti-bias approaches
Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s Degree
- Fluency in a Second Language: Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese or Somali
- Experience assisting in the development of grant proposals
Salary: Salary commensurate with experience. Benefits include medical/dental/vision, short term disability, sick/vacation/holidays leave, and 401K plan. This is a 40 hr/wk position, with evening and weekend work, grant-funded for 2 years with potential for future funding.
