Northleach

Northleach is situated adjacent to the Roman road known as the Foss (or Fosse) Way. The town is medieval in origin, the planned layout of the medieval bough being still visible in the form of the existing settlement; archaeological evidence of further settlement possibly of medieval date lies adjacent to the eastern edge of the town. The setting of the Conservation Area and the listed buildings in the historic core of the settlement will be a significant factor in planning expansion of the settlement. Comparatively little is known of the archaeology of the landscape immediately adjacent to Northleach but, given its location, there is likely to be evidence of earlier settlement, particularly of prehistoric and Roman date.
