Quick Tips for Installing Microsoft ActiveSync 3.5
1. Download Microsoft ActiveSync 3.5 by either going to the Microsoft Web site at http://www.microsoft.com/mobile/pocketpc/downloads/activesync/as-eula35.asp
or go to the Heart Center Info Technology web site at http://disccweb.mc.duke.edu/heart_it/ and click on downloads. The first item in the list – Medical Calculator - has a link to download ActiveSync 3.5 in its text.
or install from the CD included in your Jornada box.
The install file name is msasync.exe
2. Install ActiveSync
Make sure your handheld device is in its cradle, that the external power cable is plugged in on both ends and the USB cable is connected firmly to your desktop USB (or serial cable) port.
Follow the directions given in the installation wizard.
Tip: if, after installing, your desktop computer is having difficulty finding the handheld device, try rebooting your desktop computer and allowing the desktop and the handheld to connect with one another. This may also be useful in the next step.
3. Set up a Partnership with the handheld device. This wizard will automatically start after ActiveSync is installed.
Some helpful tips for using ActiveSync
At times you may have a problem with your device connecting to your PC via ActiveSync. Try taking your device out of the cradle and reseating in the cradle.
Under the Tools menu option there is a sub menu choice Options. This let’s you set up how and what you want to synch. Note that you should not check Inbox, unless you use Microsoft Outlook on your desktop.
You can use mBrowser from your home or office computer if it is out of range of a wireless access point through ActiveSync. All you need to do is establish the connection with your desktop computer and make sure you are synched with your device.
