Slang of the 1920’s

Overview: This lesson is designed to give students background knowledge of slang terms of the 1920’s. It will then be used to draw conclusions about slang in general and how it has changed over time.

Activities included:

1) Students will learn slang words of the 1920’s and their meaning

2) Students will create crosswords or word searches for their classmates to complete utilizing internet tools

3) Students will complete a Venn diagram of slang words in the 1920’s and present day looking specifically for similarities – Teacher will create Venn utilizing internet tools

4) Teacher will create rubric for written assignment

5) Students will complete writing assignment using slang words in a period set letter.

6) The teacher will utilize an online lesson planner to create a viewable schedule for this lesson

Instructional Objectives:

The students will come out of this lesson with more knowledge of how slang has evolved. They will also learn how to utilize the Internet puzzle making technology.

·  Reflect what you have learned about the culture in America during the 1920’s.

·  Incorporate 40 dictated slang terms and use them correctly.

·  Be as descriptive as you can while remaining historically accurate. Feel free to develop the character(s).

·  Needs to be 1 ½ to 2 pages typed in letter or journal format.
