BEARS have Pride

“Beyond Our Doors”

(Be prepared, Everyone shows respect, Attitude matters, Remember responsibilities, Safety first)

Welcome to the 2017– 2018 school year at New Bridge Middle School. We are excited that you and your child have chosen to be part of what we believe will be a wonderful and productive time. Below are a few topics that we hope will make your adjustment to NBMS easier.

Academic / Behavior Plan

We expect all children to make appropriate choices at school. Expectations for students are covered in the student handbook and posted in all classrooms.

We will be using a Punch Card system within the sixth grade. Based on the punch card eligibility, those students who meet the requirements will be eligible for the incentive at the end of each nine week reporting period. Students are required to keep their punchcard and hall pass in their lanyard provided by the school. Lanyards must be worn around your neck at all times. Students can receive a punch for inappropriate behavior, gum, throwing things, excessive talking, cell phone, electronic devices, or other activities that violate school rules. If a studentloses their punch card,an additional punch will be placed on the new one.

Homework Policy

Your child will be assigned homework nightly. The amount of homework assigned during the first nine weeks might seem excessive. Generally, it takes some time for students to learn to manage their time wisely and to get into a routine. We will be communicating daily as team members, so that we are aware of how much homework is being assigned in order to keep it at an acceptable level. Please refer to each individual teacher's syllabus for their policy on late homework.

Grading Policy

Throughout the nine weeks, we will assign homework, class work, labs, and projects. Students will also be given quizzes and chapter/unit tests.

The grading scale as stated in the handbook is as follows: A (90-100), B (80-89), C 70-79), D (60 –69), F (below 60). A rubric method of scoring may be used. This method of scoring will be explained to students. There will be an incentive for those students who qualify for the BEAR program.

Conferences

We will be available for conferences on Wednesday and Thursday from 2:00-2:30pm.

Please call the school office at 346 – 5144 to set up a conference.

If you have any questions, concerns, or regarding your child please call or email the teacher(s).

This year is going to be a wonderful learning experience for your child. We have many exciting things planned. Working in partnership with you will make this year highly successful.
