Wellcome Trust Institutional Strategic Support Fund
Veterinary Clinical Leave Fellowship
The Faculty of Health and Life Sciences is pleased to announce the first round of the Veterinary Clinical Leave Fellowship, supported by the Wellcome Trust Institutional Strategic Support Fund.
These Fellowships provide a period of research leave for clinical or paraclinical staff to allow applicants to reengage with high quality scientific research and develop their research profile and skills, enabling them to develop a clinical academic career, combining both clinical practice and high quality bioscience research and ultimately leading to substantive external grant funding and high quality publications. Fellowships are for up to 2 years.
Eligibility: Completed PhD and postgraduate clinical training and undertaking a role in the Institute of Veterinary Sciences which involves substantial amounts of clinical or paraclinical work. Fellowships are to be undertaken in research groups/laboratories which hold significant external funding and ideally should be a different environment from where Fellows have undertaken research previously. Collaborations and placements external to the University of Liverpool would be supported.
Eligible costs: Salary costs for a replacement post to cover Fellows’ clinical, teaching and administrative duties for the period of the Fellowship and research expenses. Animal costs for lab studies will need to be explicitly justified and comply with the Wellcome Trust's policy on animal use.
Match funding expectations: Fellows’ salary costs to be funded for the duration of the Fellowship.
Requirements from awardees: A short report at the end of the funding period detailing how funds were used. Awardees are to respond to periodic requests for updates on further funding, publications and promotions. Additionally, awardees are to ensure all publications reference support from the Wellcome Trust and are made gold open access. Separate funding is available for this.
It is recommended that applicants contact Peter Clegg (), Head of Institute, Institute of Ageing and Chronic Disease, to discuss before starting an application.
Please send your completed application form, with a 2 page CV, to Peter Clegg () and Sophie Archard (), HLS Faculty Research and Impact Officer, by Monday 30 April 2018. Decisions will be made by a panel convened in May, chaired by the Head of Institute, Institute of Ageing and Chronic Disease.
