Course description:

Students will continue to review, reinforce and expand previously learned materials. Students will learn to communicate about real-life topics such as personal description including morning and daily routine, body parts, health, childhood memories, friendships, and traveling around town and around the world. They will learn to relate events in the past using the passé composé with AVOIR and ETRE, and the imperfect tenses. Students will learn to understand spoken and written French in a variety of situations and will learn to speak and write appropriate to their level. This class is taught 80% in French.

Essential Outcomes:

Make an identification based on fairly complex oral and/or written descriptors. Read and respond to developmentally appropriate material. Respond to speech of peers and familiar adults on a given topic. Derive meaning from selected authentic materials. Identify the main idea with supporting details in written material. Write spontaneously to describe or narrate present, past, and future events.

Instructional Philosophy:

No one can learn how to swim without getting in the water, no one can learn a language unless they actively practice it. Students should be prepared for an interactive class that will include hands-on activities and group work. Students are expected to come to class with a willingness to participate and to learn. Regular attendance in class is vital and mandatory to ensure a quality educational experience.

** Attendance and effort will lead to success is this class! **

Dates of Major Assignments & Assessments:

All assessments dates will be posted on the school calendar. We will have one test and one skit at the end of every chapter. We will get ready for the chapter test in various ways. First, we will take little quizzes that will help students remember new words’ meaning, their spelling and verb conjugation. Then we will have more complex quizzes called “interro”. These will allow the students to show what they have learned either by translating, filling the blank, writing sentences and small compositions or by using what they have learned in a conversation. Students should expect up to three quizzes per week. The oral skits will be the results of group work and will be performed in class.

Assessments and Grading Plan:

·  Grades are posted on SchoolView weekly.

·  Grades are based on Formative Assessments (20%) and Summative Assessments (80%).

All assessments are based on a variety of oral and written work.

A = 100 – 90% / B = 89 – 80% / C = 79 – 70% / D = 69 – 60% / F = 59 and below
