Stone Lake Elementary PTO General Meeting Minutes –March8, 2016

The March meeting of the Stone Lake PTO was called to order at 6:00 p.m. by Kristen Beckner.

Attendance: Jessica Trudell, JoAnna Cline, Mark Beard, Kristen Beckner, Tye Ross, Yvette Sack, Erica Davis, Dreena Freeman, Jeremy Roberts, Angela Moore, Liz Mellinger, Scott Pagls, Ashley Aisle, Sunnie Coleman.

Approval of General Meeting Minutes:

A motion was made by Liz Mellinger and seconded by Jessica Trudellto approve the minutes for the February9, 2016 meeting. Kristen Beckner called for a vote to approve the motion. All present members were in favor; no objections or abstentions.

Treasurer’s Report/Budget:

Jessica Trudell reported on the February Treasurer’s Report. Items mentioned: 1)Target Red Card - $975.35, 2)Spirit Wear - $490.67. JoAnna Cline mentioned that she had received an email stating that the Target Red Card Program would be ending. She will research this further. A motion was made byErica Davisand seconded by Angela Moore to approve the February Treasurer’s Report. Kristen Beckner called for a vote to approve the motion. All present members were in favor; no objections or abstentions.

Future Business:

A: Yearbook

Erica Davis reported that yearbook pre-orders are due on April 4. She will submit everything by March 28 and thanked the staff for sending pictures. Discussion was held on how many extra yearbooks she would need to purchase. She was asked to check with Lisa Mehl, PTO President who was not present at the meeting.

B: E-scrip fundraisers

JoAnna Cline reported on new additions to the E-scrip fundraising program (Save Mart & Food Maxx). She also reported that Red Robin has a fundraiser program with their rewards card. She also mentioned that if you go through the E-scrip website to shop at stores, such as Amazon that a percentage will be given to the school.

C: Panda Express Reading Program & Restaurant night

JoAnna Cline reported on behalf of Ebony Wellingtonthat the Stone Lake Restaurant night held at Panda Express raised $460. She also reported that Panda Express offers a reading program for kids. Each student can earn a free kid’s meal with every 5 books read. The information was given to Mr. Beard to pass on to the teachers.

D: 2016-2017 PTO Board Member Nominating Committee

Kristen Beckner reported that the Nominating Committee would present a slate of candidates for the 2016-2017 PTO Board at the April Meeting. The official vote will be held at the May meeting. She requested that if anyone was interested in a position or had questions to ask one of the committee members. The Nominating Committee consists of the following members: Kristen Beckner, JoAnna Cline, Erica Davis and Jasmine Gonzalez.

E: 2016 Apex Fun Run Dates

Jessica Trudell reported on dates for the APEX Fun Run for 2016. Dates are the following: C & D tracks –August 22-September 2 and A & B tracks –September 19-30. These dates were an adjustment to the original dates due to a conflict with Apex’s schedule.

Principal’s Report

Mr. Beard reported that 32 pencil sharpeners were needed for the teachers. Discussion was held during the February meeting that PTO would purchase the sharpeners. He also reported that he put in a request to the primary teachers for a list of PE equipment needed. Discussion was held that points from the Labels for Education program would cover some of the items needed for recess.

Mrs. Freeman reported that there will be a new after school academy for 3rd-6th grade students. This program is the Rize dance academy. An assembly will be held on March 14. The class will be held after school for 1 hour and a showcase will be presented in May.This is a 6 week program open to 25 students per grade level.

Open Forum

Representatives from a fundraiser company asked for a few minutes to speak. They wanted to know what fundraisers are currently held at Stone Lake. They have various fundraisers available such as frozen foods, discount cards, candles, cookies dough, etc.

Sunnie Coleman presented more information regarding the Kids Care Dental program called Donor’s Choose. She said when parents go into the office, they need to mention that they were referred and can then go onto the Donor’s Choose website to sign up.

Kristen Beckner expressed appreciation for Amy Sazama and Amrit Thandi who are working on Teacher’s Appreciation as well as the group working on the Ice Cream Social.

Kristen Beckner reminded the group that the Five Star Family event will take place at the Wackford on June 18 from 5:30 to 7:30. She thanked JoAnna Cline for putting the Five Star card on the back of the newsletter and said that several of those had been returned.
